I am 4 months post op and the past two weeks I gained weight but I haven't changed much about my eating just a little slacking on the workouts. But this week I start to keep track of my food and my workouts are more intense, I am finally breaking a sweet.

I have called my doc but no word back, does anyone know how many calories I should be able to take in as well as fat and other nutritional factors?

Example my input yesterday was a total of 1109 calories, 91 carbs, 44 fat, and 103 protein, and the only reason it got there was because I made a protein shake with 2 scoops and milk. Other wise it would have been a lot less.
Just looking for a little help here. I am lossing more hair then I was before so I had my pcp check my blood and everything is fine there so I think its a protein thing going to make sure I get it all in and start taking more vitamins. But other then all of that I feel great.

Thanks for the help,

Hair loss...normal for four months post op.  Will stop on its own soon.

Carbs.....high... try lowering them by third to half.... are these from white breads, pasta, rice, etc... if so, they are best eliminated from your food plan *permanently* as these are the things that allow weight gains......... proteins look good.  Patience..might be just a plateau!

No its not, it was from 1% milk, Powerbar, and a green apple. Its weird I didn't realize that those
ideas have so much carbs. I can't stomach rice or pasta or bread, anything like that is really hard for me to stomach.
I was thinking that it was a plateau, thats why I started to keep track of everything. I'm using myfitnesspal. maybe I should try a different one.
Thank you for the help, its good to know  the hair will stop soon, it was worrying me just a little, I have always had really thick hair and now its to the point were I can deal with it a little more.

No sage advice really (I'm only 2 1/2 months out) but I cannot believe with what you are telling me that you are gaining fat...

Perhaps it is just a bit of a blip on the way down or you are a bit constipated or gaining muscle...it will be interesting to see what the vets say.

Andrea.

I was think muscle also, I figured I hit a plateau and started to gain a little muscle.

We will see I hope the scale moves this week in the right direction. I feel like I am failing myself.

Do you feel like you are slipping into any old habits?  What makes you feel like you are failing yourself?  If there are things that are concerning, try addressing them.  Staying off the scale a few weeks might be your best bet.  Also, looking at other NSV like clothing fit and measurements...sometimes the scale is our worst enemy.

The scale is my worst enemy always has been never had one in the house until I had the surgery and I wanted to know so badly how much I lost.

I have noticed a few things, my insomnia is back and with that I seem to snack at night more then I would. I was grazing the last few weeks, but that has stopped. Maybe I did slip back to my old ways cause I was getting comfortable with where I was but I am not at goal yet. I still want to lose more, I am more then half way there and I know I can do the rest. I have done great since February 2011 I have continued to lose weight and haven't gained unthing bac****il this week. I didn't even it a plateau so I should be happy I think I am just not where I was hoping to be at this point. Its most likely all in my head and I need to get over it. I will work on everything and deal with the it all as it comes.

Keeping track of everything is good, I never did it before but its because I didn't care to know. I will wait to see what the doctor says and go from there. I will be more aware of what I am putting in my mouth and how I am eating it.

Thank you for the help I mean it I don't know if I would have realized this with out you asking those questions.

I'd call your NUT/doc back again and try to figure out exactly what part of their plan you should be on..for example..I had my surgery on 12/30/11 and I'm supposed to have 600-700 calories until I'm 6 months out. She also doesn't want me to eat back exercise calories..I've been leary of this low calorie approach but it seems to be working for me. Once you find out if your on the right track according to the plan just make sure you are measuring your food and really tracking everything that you put in your mouth. Good Luck!!

I did call them again this morning hoping to hear back soon. I had mine 12/19/11 and was never told anything about calorie intake just to stay on the phase I was one.

I will try that thank you. I need to find a different diet, maybe I haven't been paying so much attention to everything I eat which could be causing all of this.

Thanks!1

I hear that it's normal to have some hair fall out 3-4 months out. I'm a little over 4 and my hair is thinner but as it was thick before...it's more manageable for me! I also tend to not lose for a week then drop several pounds suddenly...I try and concentrate on what I eat and when (I too am a late nite grazer so I try to cut off eating after 9PM)...I also look at inches lost when the weight is leveled off...often I've lost or toned my body even when the weight is the same. And finally, It's very hard to maintain a high protein diet...at least for me...so limit carbos like rice, noodles, potatoes to no more than 1/2 cup a meal or substitute yogard.  Remember its a long trip...no just a short journey...hope this helps, thanks
