Amusement Rides and RNY
Hello everyone! My surgery was on March 12th. I am 2 months out now and lost 60 pounds so far! I have had a great recovery; no pain, no problems. Very happy about that.
In July, my county has a fair/carnival every year. I haven't been on any of the rides since probably 2003. Now that I am losing weight I want to ride. My question is, How long should someone wait before going on amusement park rides? By then, I will be 4 months out.
Thank you :)

water slides at 2 weeks out??? did your surgeon know this? most surgeons say it is okay to take a shower after 1 week but no baths or swimming or any water immergion for atleast 1-2 months to make sure your incisionsl healed completely. at 2 weeks you could have gotten water inside your abdomen or caused the wounds to heal much slower from the fluids.
also, most rides have a sign at the entrance asking if you have any major surgery or any medical conditions? RNY classifies as a major surgery and they wouldnt let you on it if they knew you were only 2 weeks out. I was still recovering in bed with pain meds - i give you alot of credit for going out and doing things so quickly

He didn't know about the slides -- but I did have approval for pools & hot tubs. I was back to work, without pain meds after 5 days (surgery on Wed. - back on Mon.). My incisions were fully healed. I was back to working out lightly.... I was surprised that my recovery was so fast, but that is a good thing.
my surgeon is super conservative
8 weeks before airflight
at 9-10 weeks he sees patients to give gop ahead for no physical restrictions
He would not even give me limited exercise. I had to prod him to get the go ahead for the elliptiocal after 4 weeks. According to him he wants all his patients to just do walking and light aerobics for 10 weeks so they will not risk any issues with the surgery.
He was very specific about no kicking, cardio boxing, or any ab work.
Maybe I am not typical for this surgery since even when I was heavy I always exercised. I think many patients my surgeon has never exercised for many years so walking is ok for them.

by July you will be fine. My surgeon told us no physical exercise for atleast 2 months = we were allowed to go to the gym at 1 month but only for the threadmill and bike. Then he added eliptical which no matter what I did, I couldnt do it, so they had a skyer, that I did instead and some arms machines but nothing that affects the abs for 3 months. At 3 months, all legs and things that affect the legs were added = so anything was allowed including running. He tried to tries to not joggle your abdomen for the first 3 months.
Enjoy the carnival in July.
