What is your opinion on this

I joined a weight loss group against my better judgment because my neighbor insisted. I have no problems, but she seems to have a problem with me now. I went over to drop off something I borrowed yesterday and she started telling some lady I did not even know about me having surgery. I was a little pissed but I played nice I said nothing. I listened to what they thought and, pretty much they had two different opinions. Their opinions differ from mine. so I will list them here and you guys can weigh in on the subject if you want too.

My opinion: If you are unhappy with your self and you want to have weight loss surgery that is your business I can't judge what it is like to be you, and I don't think what you do with your body is that important to me it is yours. I feel the same about cosmetic surgery wigs any addition that makes you feel better. I say go for it.

Lady 1 opinion: If you don't have health problems you should not do it is not fair that every one else has to excesses and diet for the outcome they want and you just want to go have surgery. ( I did not give this ignorance a response at all I kept quiet and continued to listen)

Lady 2's opinion: I just don't understand why if you lose weight you want to be congratulated and you had a surgery to lose weight big deal you lost 25 pounds in a month because of surgery what do you want me to do cheer for you and you cheated anyway.

I found this conversation annoying and at times amusing and ill informed but it was interesting to see what they thought. I was a little peeved that they felt the need to be vicious towards weight loss surgery patients. I just thought I'd share that lol

You were wise to not argue with ignorance. Perhaps they will be open to an enlightening discussion in the future, but the saying "haters gotta hate" came to mind. They may also be a litte jealous that you were able to take a positive step towards taking care of yourself. Enjoy your new body, and don't look to these women for positive affirmation....you won't get it.

Those women are just stupid & ill informed. If everyone actually realized what we have to go through, what we give up & what risks we put ourselves through they may not be so quick to imply that you cheated, took the easy way out. You indeed have every right to be proud & congratulated for taking the steps to better your health & happiness. Don't let those people rain on your parade. You are doing great!

By their standards then taking a car to work is "cheating" so they should walk. Cooking on a stove is "cheating" they may want to use two sticks and start a fire in the yard.

We use the best technology and medical knowledge daily in all our lives. This is no different. Do they feel taking medicine for a heart condition is "cheating"? How about using a cane or walker or even a motorized wheel chair" Would getting a pacemaker or a new valve in my heart be cheating? Removal of an appendix or a gall bladder?

People like this upset me and i'm lucky to not have to deal with them very often.

Met my first goal, met my second goal, met my surgeons goal. Now I have a new goal!

As the saying goes, "You can't fix stupid." I usually just get a perplexed look when people say stupid things to me and just walk away. That usually drives them more crazy than if I engaged in a debate...lol. I'm all about the passive aggressive approach to things. It's not worth my time. Sounds like you have the same philosophy.

I agree that too many people butt into other people's business when it has absolutely no effect on them. Drives me insane. I read a fabulous article on a similar subject yesterday on motherhood. The best line was this: "Let's stop quibbling about what competent mothers are choosing for their kids, and step it up for the kids that don't have one."

Hold your head up high and know you are doing what is best for you and your health. Don't listen to the nay-sayers.

They both are dumb asses and if anyone sayes anything like that to my wife they probably will get told off and not see us again. I have had the surgery too and let me tell you it is the best thing I ever did for me my family and my grandkids. I only needed to lose 100 lbs but am not depressed and happy and active again. You have way more patience than me to set quiwt thru that. they would have been told off
Good luck
