Sugar-free candy for diabetics...

I'm sure that most everyone has either seen them in Walgreens, CVS and the like or at least knows of them...the Hershey bars, Reese's PB Cups, etc. that are sugar-free and marketed specifically to those who are diabetic...CVS stocks it with the rest of the regular assortment and Walgreens stocks most of it in a diabetics products section...(a type of segregation?)...

Anyone here ever "indulge", so to speak?

If so, would they be recommended for the occasional sweet tooth?

I do, in small amounts.  But I can tolerate small amounts of candy with sugar, too.  I mean, one or two Hershey kisses is not going to have that much sugar.

The sugar alcohols in sugar free candy bother some people, and the calories still add up and of course they don't have any nutrients.  But I don't see the harm in an occasional treat.

I totally agree with Kelly that having a piece of candy/chocolate on occassion is not a big issue.

I don't totally understand why some think that since you have this surgery you will never be able to eat anything that you once did.  You can eat anything you wish, just not the same amounts.  Everyone falls off the wagon from time to time, that goes for the occassional potatoe chip, pretzel, or piece of bread.  You are NOT going to hell,  You are NOT going to gain 20 pounds.

This is a life style change, not a diet.

Some people have trouble eating some things in moderation, though.  That's why I do not buy crackers.  Of course a few crackers will not make me gain weight.  But half the box, in one day?  Not a good idea.  And I seem unable to limit myself to just a few.

That's me and pasta.  I have to be SUPER careful about pasta if I order it when I dine out, and I can't make it at home at all.  It's a massive trigger food (of which I don't have many, I've found), and I can't eat it in moderation. I'll make myself incredibly sick.

I don't disagree with the content of most of your response...but it seems to assume a great deal in re: to my state of mind...I'm barely 5 to 6 weeks post op and I'd prefer to be cautious in re: the foods that I introduce back into my system...I'm also keeping vigilant in re: foods that can enable reverting back to harmful eating habits...if such an approach on my part is frustrating to your nature, feel free to refrain from responding...

Finally, going forward, please omit references to heaven or hell as you have no idea as to whether or not I believe in such mythology...

Are you asking others NOT to refer to heaven and hell because you consider such things "mythology"? Don't ask others not to express their beliefs and in the same breath offend those with insulting words!I will pray for you.

This makes me giggle - I just posted on my blog HERE about my very first piece of Sugar Free Chocolate since surgery. Thank goodness I have never been a huge sweet eater - I feel for those who are, but my piece of chocolate was delish and I was surprised.
