This encore presentation of an NSV previously noted....
...is brought to you by sheer determination to take advantage of every opportunity to break old, harmful and unhealthy eating habits...
Last week, in a thrilling adventure, I claimed an NSV regarding my overcoming the temptation to have some leftover birthday cake that was left unattended in the lunchroom following a co-worker's birthday celebration...well, that was child's play compared to what I had to face (so to speak) today...
My department celebrates birthday parties a little differently than the rest of most folks with whom I work...we don't do the birthday cake thing...instead, we do the Einstein Brothers bagels with cream cheese (both regular and low-fat) thing, the Costco coffee cake (cinnamon, chocolate chip, apple) thing, the Entenmann's strudel cake (one frosted entirely with chocolate) thing and a token fresh fruit salad and veggie plate w/ low-fat ranch dip thing. Now, the floorplan for my department (web) and for graphics is a little more open than most so as a result, I have a very large "office" (cubicle) area because it basically opens out into the rest of the floor where it is most convenient to set up the table that holds all the previously mentioned goodies...thankfully, for that reason, I had my back to it for most of the morning but it was still less than ten feet away from me at any given time...
I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't tempted...but as long as I kept my back to it, I was, for the most part, fine...that isn't to say that it didn't require a conscious effort to remain focused on the work at hand, the reason I had WLS in the first place and the types of decisions made in similar cir****tances in the past that helped bring me to the point that WLS was necessary...
All this to say that by the noon hour, it had all been moved into the lunchroom for community snacking where it all but disappeared within an hour...and I didn't even sample the tiniest bit...not a crumb!!
I am claiming victory, once again...I was triumphant in the re-match...the flag of self-restraint is flying high atop the hill that is temptation by high-carb, high-fat, high-fructose, deadly "food."
Join us again next time for another exciting adventure in True Stories of Self-restraint!

Pretend I said that in Harry Caray's voice, Mr. Chicago.

That's really great! I'm lucky that my work place doesn't do much in the way of food. We don't celebrate birthdays. About the only thing we do is a pizza party right before Christmas where the department buys the pizzas and the rest of us bring desserts or whatever we want. That's only once a year, thank goodness!
