Not sure I want to know the answer to this but I am going to ask
So all this talk of a drain where the heck does the drain go into? Is it in the stomach? Does it just float around in your abdomen? Where is the fluid coming from? Am I leaking blood from the work they did inside me and the drain gets it out of me? I am scared to read the responses as I saw someone post the thing was a couple feet long and I really don't remember seeing the drain that was taken out of me after my gall bladder surgery I just saw stars.
Thanks
Thanks
Michelle

The drain goes from where they cut you (stomach/pouch) out of your body to drain excess blood. For me it was a tiny tube (about the width of spaghetti) attached to a little bulb-looking thingie that captured blood. Removing it stings a little but no worse than getting an immunization in my opinion.
Frankly, if you've been through childbirth, this is a cake walk.
Hope that helps.

It is a tube in your abdomen. When your body is wounded it has secretions as it heals, not necessarily bad thing (even if you sprain your ankle, the swelling fluid).
The drain wasn't a big problem for me except the tip irritated below my rib because I walked TONS in the hospital. When they pulled it out was a relief.
edited - they can also use it to monitor what KIND of fluids your body is producing loose in your abdomen.

I must say that drain did not bother me, BUT coming out it was one of the wierdest things I have ever experienced. It did NOT hurt, but it was so bizzare. It was also out in like 2 seconds - but something I will never forget.

Thanks! I couldn't look at my drain after the gall bladder it grossed me out. Do you know 4 days I was in the hospital with that thing in me the nurse would come and squeeze the bulb I was so grossed out I never asked. I guess I knew it would freak me out. When he yanked it out holy stars I thought I was going to die. I screamed so loud the girl in the bed next to me was like see he didn't have to do that to you he should have told you what was going on. Thanks for the info so this time I won't have to ask I will just let them do what they have to do and I will know what is going on.

I've had these drains before and my final visit with my Dr. I asked him if he planned on putting one in me. He said we normally don't use them. So that lead me to believe I would only get it if I had a large amount of bleeding like I did on my last surgery. I don't like them and am hoping I don't get one.
