People and their big mouths

I am a medical biller who works p/t and runs a business on
the side.  I had a former client call me a few weeks ago and
wanted me to do some biling for her.  I explained that I was
going for surgery, but that we could discuss it when I got back.
Of course, she asked what kind of surgery and I had no qualms
about telling her.

Well, fast forward and I met with the client.  I found out that
basically she wanted me to clean things up so she could hire
another billing service!    I took the work anyhow, but then decided
that night that it wasn't going to work out.  SO, I returned her work
the following day.

Apparently, my sister-n-law's neighbor (who is the Physician's
ASSistant there) decided she had the authority to tell my sister-n-
law about my bariatric and hernia surgeries.  I AM SO PISSED OFF.
My brother was frantically texting me this morning about it.

Here's the scoop.  I told my brother because he IS my brother.  I
did not tell his wife because she is manic-obsessive about weight.
Plus, her mom had RNY way back in the early 90's and had lots of
complications from it. (she was/is also VERY non-compliant)  I didn't
want to hear her opinions and didn't want her continuously grilling me
like she did when she found out I was on Weigh****chers a couple
years ago.

This biotch had NO right to tell my sister-n-law my business.  I wish
to God I was a patient at that office because I would sue her ass off
for violating my HIPPA rights.  The angry lady in me wants to call her
up, chew her up and spit her out.  Why can't people just keep their
mouths shut?  Why do they have to gossip?  I'm beside myself.

I am so sorry this happened to you... I don't have any answers.. Will a HUG work?

At first when I read your title my response was, I didn't say anything, I promise..... But I sure do understand why that would make you upset...

Thank you.  I guess what bothers me the most is that I did
NOT tell this PA myself.  She heard it through the grapevine
at her office.  SO, she REALLY had no right to spread that
info since it wasn't told to her by me.  She is supposed to be
a professional.  Wouldn't you think she'd ask me first???

I would think that... IDK but maybe letting her supervisor know that she can not be trusted with confidentiality would be a good thing. IMHO, if she will do it to you, who else would she do that to? I guess I ask to many questions... I'm so sorry this happened. I hear that this kind of stuff will die down. IDK, I'll have to just wait and see until after I have my surgery.

People can be so mean

Thank you!  I was a freelance writer for a paper, here in
Detroit, about 2 years ago.  Loved it, but didn't have time
for it once the billing started picking up.  I miss it, though!

 I'd also send copies of this letter to her supervisor and any doctor(s) she works for or with. I doubt this is the first time she's gossiped about someone's medical issues.
