Argh! doctors' offices

Just venting.

Today I had an appt scheduled with the ENT about the wart-like thing on my lip.  As I was in the car driving to the appt, someone from my PCP's office calls me and says she is calling about my referral to an ENT.  I said "Yes, what about it?"

She says, "Well, would you like to go ahead and schedule that?'

I say, "No, because I've already scheduled it.  In fact, I am in the car on my way to that appt right now!"

She seems confused by this, so I explain that I saw my PCP TWO WEEKS ago and was told then that I should see an ENT, so I called to make an appt the next day.  Then I asked her why she was just now calling me about it, instead of calling me two weeks ago.  She says she just now got the information and she can't do anything until the nurses give her the information and she doesn't have any control over it and she doesn't know why it took two weeks.

So I ask her who would know why it took two weeks, in case I wanted to discuss that with them.  Because that seems ridiculous to me.  She says the director of nursing and gives me her name.  I say thanks and plan to call her later, because by then I am at the doctor's office.

So I go in and check in with the receptionist and am told my appt is not today, it's tomorrow.  I feel very certain when I scheduled it, I was told it was Wed, May 30.  I wrote down both the day and the date.  It's hard to imagine that they said "Thursday" and I wrote "Wed" and then went on to write the wrong date.  At least it is not a long drive there.

The doctors certainly are not on top of things like they used to be.  Hope you get your problem resolved tomorrow.

I had an issue about 2 weeks ago with my PCP who I have been seeing since 1978.  I had what I suspected was a gall bladder attack and called to get in that day to confirm.  This is a clinic with multiple doctors, so I figured I may not be able to see my primary doctor, but I was OK with seeing whoever.

Anyway, when I called, they told me they could not get me in and I should go to the ER - in the middle of the day.

I was pissed and sat down and wrote them a nastygram expressing my disappointment for suggesting the ER for an urgent but not emergency situation.  The head doctor called me the next day to see if I wanted to come in right away, but the urgency had passed.

I am now looking for another PCP because I obviously cannot rely on them with an urgent problem.

I am sorry that this happened to both of you.  I have been in healthcare for 37 years and if you think it is bad now, just wait for ObamaCare.

I am not at all convinced that ObamaCare is every going to happen, but I'm also not convinced it will make matters any worse.

I certainly agree with you, mcalkins. Especially since I am now in my early 60's, and I believe care is going to be rationed for older folks.

We can only hope it is going to be overturned.

I hope you find out what's going on with all this, Kelly.  It sounds like the ENT's office is a little disorganized.

For those who want to raise the spectre of health care reform, I'd ask that you not do it here.  The healthcare reform bill is a complicated subject, and while some of your concerns may have some validity (I don't know, because 99% of the time, the person proclaiming the horrors of "Obamacare" make no reference to any portion of the law that would be relevant to the topic at hand--no hyperlink, and usually no reasoning), it really has no place in a support thread.

If you want to debate health care policy, it might be appropriate to do on these boards (I haven't read the TOS), but don't hijack a request for support to do it.   And if you want to debate health care reform, do me a favor and show your work.  You won't convince me without it.

Yeah, I feel really certain it was their mistake, not mine.  But I can't prove it.  And it doesn't matter, I wasn't on their schedule for today so I wasn't going to get to see the doctor today.  At least it's more of an annoyance than a real problem.  The office isn't far from my house and I didn't have any other plans tomorrow so it's not that big a deal.  But if I have to make another appt with them, I will call in advance to confirm the day and time.

As far as I know, there is nothing in the TOS saying we can't discuss health care reform on OH and I'm happy to discuss it, although I admit I don't know all the ins and outs of the bill.  I didn't make the effort to learn all the details because I was pretty sure at least a lot of it was never going to pass.  But it might be nice to start another thread to discuss it in.

mcalkins has been in healthcare for 37 years, so I would think there would be some insider knowledge there.  Personally as an HR person, I have attended seminar after seminar, so I do know some of the details on the plan.

I can't believe there is any reason why this subject cannot be discussed - it is simplty the opinions of the posters and, last I checked, we still have freedom of speech in this country.

Of course we have freedom of speech in this country.  However, there are some things that can't be said on this forum; when people post things that are not acceptable according to the terms of service, posts can be removed.

However, I just said above that I would be happy to discuss health care reform if someone wants to discuss it.  All I said was that it might be a good idea to start a separate thread about it.  That might be good because then the subject like could indicate what the thread was about, so people that want to discuss it would know to read that post and people that don't want to discuss it would know to avoid that post.

If for some reason you really prefer to discuss it right here, though, I don't feel strongly about not doing it right here.  Discuss away if you'd like!

The same thing happened to me except they said that, "Your apt. isn't today, it was yesterday". So, it could be worse!
