Poll: Do you have a "shut down" food

prior to my WLS my idea of food-perfection was a massive massive salad. I would eat one meal a day, but it was a LOT of calories and mass. Avocado, olives, cheese, diced turkey, bell peppers, snap peas, kumquats, artichoke hearts, cucumbers, beeets, baby corn, and a whole host of other ingredients. Super yum. It was the desire to not give that up that made me fight even the thought of having WLS. I didn't want to give up my summer salads.

Now that I'm quite a ways out, I have a much smaller version of those salads, with only a few ingredients. If I add diced turkey (about 2 or three ounces) and make about a full cup of salad I might fini**** (since most of teh cup of salad ingredients are veggies that mash down to small volume. But if there's turkey in it, I can't eat -- or drink -- for hours and hours. In the interest of getting my liquids in, I haven't been eating turkey in my salads. In fact, I got a bunch of turkey on special, froze the lot of it, and unfroze chunk after chunk. But seeing that it stopped me up for hours on end, and learning of a student whose family were pretty much out of money and food etc, I took out all of my turkey chunks, and a couple of uncooked turkeys (the freezer need a clean out) and donated the lot of them to that family. Now with me worrying about gaining weight, I WANT that turkey back, so I can eat and stay full (even if I am not eating too much and food is absolutely last on my list)... but it's only on special once in a blue moon, and so far I haven't found any at the store.

So diced turkey added to a salad and I can't eat or drink for going on 5 hours on average. I don't like to go that long without liquid OR food, so I don't eat it much. I have almost gone vegetarian lately with my dislike of meat (mostly due to dental issues making chewing painful)

Inexpensive beef. 2 oz and I'm done.

But give me a nice filet mignon and I can do 4 oz. Give me 93% lean ground beef and I can do 4 oz. Tenderloin tips in stroganoff - again, 4 oz, double what I can it if it's a rib eye or new york strip or 80% lean.

Cooked mushy veggies.  Any of them.  If they are still crisp I'm good, but anything steamed soft and I'm closed for the night.  Broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, squash... you name it.  Raw I can eat plenty.

Also pasta.  I don't eat it generally, but if for some reason the mood strikes me to take a bite or two of the pasta roni while I make dinner I am completely shut down for the rest of the meal.  I tend to try to avoid it.  Anything past the "closed" sign and I'm in pain.  We're talking 2-3 bites.  1/4 cup, maybe.

I'm still new to this eating thing. I'm trying steak for the first time tonight. Thanx for the reminder to marinate it in yogurt!
For a few days I've been ravenous, but by God and by golly I'm back on track.  A nice 3-oz hunk o' beef should fill me up.
