Learning the hard way...(continued)...

...continued from whenever I last posted about learning the hard way...

Today's lesson has nothing whatsoever to do with eating too fast, the wrong thing(s), the right things that the pouch doesn't tolerate (for any reason), eating too much...none of that...

Earlier this week, it became clear to me that I needed to take in more fiber...in one of the pre-op classes, we were provided with a sample packet of BeneFiber...at the time it wasn't really needed so I put it away for future use but at some point it either got tossed out or misplaced...anyway, I've been looking for this stuff and found it at a Walgreens.

The following day, I followed the directions and dissolved the contents of one packet into 16.9 fluid oz. of water...I down 32 oz. of water during my commute (one [1] 32-oz. bottle each way)...so that was the contents of two (2) packets (each packet is 3g of soluble fiber). Yesterday, my schedule was such that it took me the entire day to finish the one 32-oz bottle. However, today, I finished the first bottle just shortly after I got to work...approx. one and one-half hours later, I heeded the warning, got to the men's room and promptly exploded...

Perhaps that was to be expected with the first use...but I can't help but feel that I would have been better off dissolving the powder of just one packet into that 32-oz. bottle...

i do my benefiber each morning in my decaf protein coffee.  I am in the bathroom before I finish the 2nd cup 95% of the time.  Routine helps.

I have worked out a routine for myself that works like a charm and I WILL NOT stray from no matter what.

I use Miralax (or the generic alternative). It is gentle and dependable. I used to use it when I was constipated and take a couple of whole doses a couple times a day until I pooped. Then I would keep taking it once a day until I just quit because I felt like I had things under control. Well, after several miserable bouts of waiting miserably to poop, and lots of trial and error as to what keeps me "regular,"  I finally settled on a half dose of the stuff in my morning coffee or protein shake. EVERY DAY. After going back and forth for months because I just couldn't commit to the routine, I finally decided it was important enough to make it a routine. I have been regular for months and make sure not to miss a dose.

Thanks to both you and Price...and I concur...once I can settle on a routine, it has to get better...

I was given something in the hospital to take home as a stool softener. It made me sick so asked my PCP for another kind of stool softener and she gave me Miralax. I did not know it would make you go, but I guess it does. Funny story, well not too funny unless you didn't make it to the mens room. I will watch it, do not want to have an accident.
