Can Veggies be too much of a good thing?

This time of year is my favorite -  there are gadzooks lots of fresh veggies!! Squash, corn, tomatoes, peas, butterbeans, okra..... yum!

So what's the deal with "starchy" vegetables?
If we are supposed to eat our protein and then use vegetables as more "filler' if we are still hungry, isnt' a calorie is a calorie is a calorie?

I love fresh veggies.  That is all I had for lunch today.... fresh veggies ****il my WW waffle and peanut butter for the gym).

    So what's wrong with vegetables?

I have been living off of veggies for as long as I can remember. With that said, I have only been able to eat veggies and some fruits since WLS 9 weeks ago.
Today I was actually able to eat and keep down a grilled lamb chop and a grilled scallop!

I have been eating salads for the past 4 weeks. I just cut everything up very small. Baked sweet potatoes, green beans, broccolli and tomatoes have all been very kind to my pouch. I can only eat 2-3 oz per meal.

I am seriously on "survival mode" because I cannot tolerate any type of protein supplement and there was no way that I could keep tuna or fish or chicken down either. I am just eating what I can and I am almost burnt out on the Fage 0% greek yogurt...lol

By the way I had to stop listening to my NUT...she was and is NUTS!

HA thanks!
I actually really like my dietitian and have an email in to her... but I have a big vegetable buffet at my mom's house where I am going tonight and I already had a lot for lunch.
I am fortunate??? in that I can tolerate anything and everything, usually in substantial amounts (per WLS standards anyway)

i eat veggies all the time. i don't believe 'a calorie is a calorie' though - fresh fruits and veggies are way better calories then ding dongs. quality over quantity.

that being said, i think that moderation is still important. i eat less sweet potatoes then i do green beans. maybe the same calorie amount, but you get more 'bang for your buck' with non starchy ones. i still eat roasted sweet potatoes though. yummy

I guess I am just not real clear on starchy vegetables. I know potatoes, and someone told me corn / peas.   other than that? clueless lol

As long as you are getting adequate protein then I say veg away!

awesome!! I average 100g or more of protein, usually even without shakes  or bars  :)

I don't think there is anything wrong with them as long as you are getting in your protein. I know my doc's office also thinks of them more as a filler but not until 4 months out because it takes up space protein could be getting in.

My surgeon is the same way, and since I am 10mths out and get a LOT of protein, I don't think it will be a problem.
