Don't people read their surgeon's meal plan?
I was not really given a 'meal plan' per se.
I was just told that I would be discharged on purees, and could move onto 'soft' foods by 6 weeks.
There were certain things that they limited until 6 months out (protein bars/nuts) but I was not given a meal plan. Some sample ideas for meals but no plan per se. No calorie total either. Just 60-80g of protein a day, do not worry about calories.
I have always found it somewhat ironic that my surgeon had a very liberal post-op eating plan (soft foods before we even left the hospital), but yet gave us a fairly large binder of post-op information including what foods could be added at what point in time.
I, too, sometimes wonder why so many people post such questions. I certainly understand it if there is a specific food that might be kind of unusual that was not listed on the plan they got from their surgeon, but it does seem like some people are looking for an answer that they like better than what is on their plan.
Since my surgeon's plan was so liberal, I normally don't even open those posts, and only rarely respond to them if I open one without knowing what it is about, but what I really wonder about is how people utilize the information they get in response. If I were to respond, my answer for many easily digestible foods would be that they are permitted week 2. Someone whose surgeon requires 4-6 weeks of liquids may respond that the food in question is not permitted until 2 months or more out. Six other people might give answers that range from 5 - 10 weeks. So how does the OP decide when they will eat the food in question?!? Call their surgeon or NUT and ask even after they have asked here? Take the earliest timeframe? Take the average?
