Ok my last Nut appointment the Nut said I've got the getting the protein in down, but needed to incorporate more of a variety of foods. Veggies, fruits, etc. I'm so used to making sure I get my protein that by the time I eat it I have no room for veggies & fruits. Here lately I've been trying to sneak in a few cucumbers with my meat or even as a snack & the same with peaches or applesauce. I will use a little lettuce with my hamburger patty. It just seems like I don't have enough room to do all they want me to do to balance out my diet.  I'm currently 18 weeks post op & eating between 2-3oz of protein per meal. I eat 3-4 meals & 1-2 small snacks.

How do you all handle this?

I add an extra scoop of protein powder to my shake in the morning.  This leaves more room for me to have a salad or steamed veggies durring the day.

Your body can only absorb so much protein in a few hours time frame. So watch out on doubling the protein in one drink. Anything your body does not absorb within a certain time frame becomes very expensive urine. You will literally just pee all of the unabsorbed protein out. Ask your nut what that number is because I cannot remember. It might be in the 30's. Not exactly sure though.  I just hate to see you waste money. Protein powder is pricey.

My powder is like 23 grams of protein per scoop. So, I know doubling mine is wasteful. Perhaps an extra 1/2 scoop would not waste it. But, like I said, ask your nut.

I think what you described is the perfect way to handle it.  Don't worry, you'll be able to eat more soon.

Well, the protein is most important and I don't worry about whether or not I get enough fruits and veggies in because if we are taking the vitamins we should be taking, we are getting the nutrients we need even if we can't eat a real balanced diet yet.  Further out, you'll be able to eat more and it will be easier.

For now, I would keep doing what you've been doing.  Sneak little bits of fruits and veggies in.  If you eat yogurt, put a few tiny pieces of fruit in it.  If you make a hambuger patty put a few bits of diced onion in it.  If you eat tuna salad, have a slice or two of cucumber with it.  If you are having a slice of cheese for a snack, eat one or two thin slices of apple with it.  Just little things right now.
