i roast veggies in a teeny bit of olive oil. i also eat pumpkin seeds, low fat cheese, etc. canola oil isn't the greatest way. healthy fats are necessary but i would work more on getting it from food

ditto what lora said.  I will also use olive oil on my salad and I eat salmon as well.  I think it is harder not to over due healthy fats as to not getting enough in.

I never worry about getting in any fats, I try to eat as low fat food as possible, fat is easy to get when you eat a healthy balanced diet.

I use conola oil when I sauté squash or other veggies.  When I eat popcorn (homemade in brown paper lunch bag) I drizzle canola oil on it.  When I cook eggs, I use canola oil as the oil of choice.  Olive oil is great on salads but it does have a flavor, whereas canola oil is essentially tasteless (and has a higher smoke point) but still is a healthy monounsaturated fat (as is avocado, some nuts oils, and omega three fats).  Saturated fats like in dairy do not provide the heart health protection that monounsaturated fats do.

I was never told to eat oil or anything. First time hearing this. Most stuff I eat is low in fat, but I occasionally eat almonds or avocado, but not daily. Why the oil? How exactly does it help your liver?

Nut and vegetable oils are natural, mild laxatives.  Most RNY patients have issues like constipation and hard stools.  Two to three tablespoons of oil per day can help things move along and also make things much less painful.  Your surgeon is probably just trying to prevent problems...

Every ting tastes better with butter.  As little fat as we get - go for the most natural fats that people have eaten all the time.   a little bit of butter, or olive oil -if you like it, good fish - salmon, or even some nuts - or avocado.

I get my fats in through Nuts, PB and some full fat dairy products.  With PB being my fave!
