Liquid

Well, I started my liquid diet this morning. I am doing okay so far. I am having trouble getting in all of my water today. I am on track to get in all of my required protein in. I met with my surgeon yesterday and he thinks things are going to go well. He said he might be able to get me out the day after surgery and that I should not need any drains or caths since I am so healthy and young.
I know I have two weeks of the diet and its going to get very hard in a couple more days. The real test will be each night at dinner when I still have to cook for my family, but I can't have anything they are eating.

I don't know about the having to cook for your family part. If it were me, I wouldn't do it.
For most people, it seems the liquid diet is harder the first day or two and then gets easier. Two weeks is a long time, but on the other hand it's only two weeks out of your life.
Are there meals your family likes that you don't like? This would be a good time to serve them liver and onions or instant macaroni & cheese (bleah) or whatever turns them on and you off.
Make this as easy for yourself as you can.

Day 5 of my liquid diet was the hardest for me. My husband did help with the family cooking, which was nice - but it didn't bother me nearly as much as I expected it to. But, now that its been 2 weeks on the liquid diet plus a week after of clear liquids, and now several weeks of pureed....now the cooking is getting a bit harder. I just want to eat real food again! I just keep reminding myself that this is a temporary phase, heading towards my new life.
GOOD LUCK!

I agree with Dagne. My husband asked me one night to make him a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches and I really wanted to make one for myself. He felt really awe-full about it afterwards because he just wasn't thinking. He did tell me he was very sorry. Really, make is as easy for yourself as you can and the two weeks will fly by.
Hubby ate out the first two weeks... which was a really good thing because the smell of food make me hurl... by the third week the smell thing was still there but as long as he was cooking with the fan on, and I was in the other room I was ok... food didn't even become appetizing to me until about 2 months out.
I think for most people it gets easier after the third or fourth day. Just stay focused on your goal. And on sticking to the diet so things will go as well as your surgeon is anticipating! You don't want to do anything that might lead to problems that would cause you to need to stay in the hospital longer, have a drain, anything like that.
Plan simple meals for the family that don't require much cooking on your part. Set out bread, lunch meat and cheese and let them build their own sandwiches, or stick a frozen lasagna or pizza in the oven, etc. You can go in another room while they eat if that makes it easier.

I am on my last day of a 4 week liquid diet. It has not been easy. First week was the hardest, the 3rd week I got mad. I did cook for my family - i tried to sip on a protein shake while I ate and then sat with them at dinner drinking a crystal light. It will pass - it is really hard though being around social situations and cooking for the kids. I did it - I don't know how - but I did. . Just stay strong.
