Are the old-timers (vets) on OH Condescending???

I've been around these boards for a while and was grateful for the vets who were there then and  and hope my experience and support has helped others.

I do tend to back away or limit my response many days although I read daily. I get frustrated some days at the post or attitudes and it's best to keep quiet or be snarky.

There are many vets here with a wealth of knowledge and experiences to share. If I were beginning my journey today I'd be hanging on the coat tails of those vets hoping to absorb all that knowledge.

Great post and some awesome vets still paying it forward years later.

YOU are awesome, one of my heros!

I think I must be in one of my rare SNARKY moods. It's a really bad headache and my headache meds are in the other room, and the new kitten is lying on my lap, and I don't want to move and disturb the little purring baby beast.

This isn't him, but it's just just JUST like him:

I am so so sorry for my poor choice of the word "condescending" in that thread.   Seriously no disrespect  was intended.  I had just last night spent hours trying to pick what I hoped was the best multivitamin based on what the nutritionist recommended and ended up with the flintstones because it had more iron than the others.   So later that nit when I read the posts that kind of made fun of how flintstones mult were often on the recommended plan I was blown away. I wish I had used a different word or expressed myself better.  I really appreciated Lady's response.  It was extremely informative and well thought out, an d something I can use to challenge my nutritionist with.

Oh no no no!

You didn't stir me up.... just a sort of "critical mass" moment when stuff that had been simmering beneath the surface bubbled up and over.

I always write long responses. I have sort of diarrhea of the keyboard.

Please believe that this isn't about you.

Don't sweat it.  You weren't rude or combative about it, so no harm done.

I won't speak for Lady Lithia, but after having read another post where someone was *****ing about the tone of the posts by some unnamed vet (well, let's see... there a limited number of vets here...) and then a second post where someone didn't like the answer a vet gave, when I saw the word "condescending", it hit me the wrong way.  I was more annoyed by the other posts and just chose to not respond to any of them, hoping that they would all just "die" without too much attention.

You hit the nail on the head.. the post where the WORD condescending was used wasn't a big issue. I thought my reply was important (but then I always do).... not so much for the person who asked about the "condescending tone" but rather for the other posts I'd read a lot earlier this week and last week and the weeks and weeks before.... the post had been building in my head, and it just came out.

You know what?  I can understand why you would have been concerned and upset and confused by the posts about Flintstones when your dietician (you're seeing a registered dietician, right?) told you Flintstones were OK.  I think that's her fault, not yours.  Most patients are not that knowledgable about vitamins and we assume a professional would have the right information.

I wanted to make sure you had the ASMBS guidelines, so here is the link to them: nutrition.otago.ac.nz/__data/assets/file/0005/4784/Bariatric NutritionReading.pdf  You might want to pass it on to your dietician.

No offense here I haven't read your thread I was away most of the weekend. My response was a generic only of some of the frustrations I see.

If everyone would try to be open minded to the knowledge shared and be willing to take responsibility for additional research and knowledge to do everything on their power to lose the weight and regain their health I would be ecstatic.

My reason for being here is twofold. One to help others and two to stay accountable. I honestly feel staying active in the WLS community keeps me grounded.

I'll also add the information available today compared to 8 years ago has improved drastically. There continues to be studies that provide us with knowledge necessary to stay healthy as it relates to post WLS. I've considered us (long term vets) guinea pigs to WLS the what, when, how of success along with how and what changes we need to make long term. Believe me when I say things change and evolve continuously. An example is vitamin A and D those where not recognized as a concern for RNYers 10 years ago and only became a concern about 6 years ago.

Who knows what tomorrow, two years, five years, twenty years holds for us?

Sometimes when you've lived with something for a long time it just becomes "matter of fact".  And yes, a lot of my posts have that tone, but it isn't because I feel superior to anyone.  It's because I've been there, done that 52 times and answered it 8 times that many.  And that's only after 2 years.

I can't imagine how many time some of you have regurgitated the same information!

But, I totally see what you mean.
