So three weeks out of surgery and wish I could go back and not do it.  My Doctor said this is normal...is it really?  I am tired, weak, cold,  ache all over and I am having a very difficult time. Pre-op I was a positive individual, mother of 2, happily married for 20 years, educated and a cancer survivor. I am tired ofm feeling awful, it's difficult to get my fluids in, I am nauseated and have been having awful headaches for four days now! I dislike complaining so who can advise me?? The 28 pound loss is amazing, I know it has to get better so please help!

first things first - get your fluids in. Remember Sugar free popsicles count. Broth, skim milk, whatever you can tolerate the lower calorie the better. Some folks have to experiment with temperature and can only do warm / cold / room temp to begin with.

Next - your body is recovering from a major surgery. Serious trauma having your guts sliced and rerouted. Now you are taking in less calories so it is a struggle to heal all that up.
Do you have nausea meds left over? If so use them, that's what they are for. If not, perhaps contact your surgeon?
You may be dehydrated and having headaches from that.

Hang in there, it does get better, you just have to slog through the first few weeks the best you can.

I'm almost 4 weeks out and I've had some ups and downs too.  My surgeon also warned of the regrets that would possibly come.  I've heard that by week 6 things are much better.  I'm holding out for it anyway!  I too have had headches, achiness, etc.  Hang in there!  The weight loss is so worth it, right?

I hope by 6 weeks it will be better. My daughter leaves for college then and I planned my surgery between orientation in June and moving her in around mid- August. I missed so much during my cancer battle...I chose this surgery so I don't miss out on any more happy times. We have a son who is 10 and I want to raise him as well as grow old with my husband. I just didn't think this would take so long to recover from. I appreciate all encouraging advice. Thank you

Thank you for your advice. My family is being very supportive and I survived cancer so I hope to survive this. Will try warm broth...I am so tired of being cold and yes I have the nausea meds...they knock me out but perhaps I need a good nigh of sleep. Thank you

Your body will probably appreciate a couple of nights (and days  :)  ) of solid rest.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am going to try to drink some and get sleep now. Did your hair get dry and brittle from bypass surgery? What can I try? Already bought expensive shampoo and it didn't work??

It is so normal.  I felt that way really for the 1st 4 weeks - plus nausea on days 6-14 or so.  I was thinking the exact same thing. When I started on soft/solid food it got better. Maybe a coincidence - I don't know but at week 4 I was feeling much better.  Not so tired.  More myself.  As said in earlier posts - keep your fluids up and take it easy. Try and get a script for an anti nausea med from your doctor.  Keep coming back here and read positive posts.
