IV Infection?

 I have been battling the absolute worst pain in my arm all day (same arm that had an IV).  My temp has gone up throughout the day... from 98.2 this morning, to 99.8 tonight...not a lot, but up.  

I called the surgeon on-call, for fear that this could be a clot?  Surgeon told me that it is probably an infection of the vein from my IV.  Apply warm compress, and come to the office in the morning.  

Anyone experience this?  

Not with this surgery, but yes I have and it is horribly painful.  It is called thrombophlebitis and is a risk of IV use.  They had me on some pain meds, antibiotics, blood thinners, as well as doing dopplers to see the extent of the clot.  I'm glad you called your surgeon early, because it will only get worse if not treated.  Hope you heal quickly from this.
