I have been posting a lot lating, and I feel almost bad for it but I really don't know who to turn to. I talked to my uncle again last night (he is a nurse) about how I gained 11 pounds in 3 weeks eating well and working out (I have gained inches as well) He started asking me all these questions like a quiz. I remember most of them just don't want to type them out. One was what is my normal body temp..mine is 96.7. 97.3 on a high day. Then he asked me if my mom could look were my thryiod* gland is when I drink something with my head back to see if something pokes out..well something did 3 out of 3 times on my right side. So he wants me to get ahold of my doc first thing in the morning to get a full thryiod panel done, not just the ts3 I think he called it. Does anything have any info on this? I know back when I was 18 I gained 60 pounds in 7 months and they said there was nothing wrong with me. Any advice would be great. Thanks :)

I don't have much knowledge but you do want to get the TSH, T3 free and T4. Thyroid problems can be hard to diagnosis in some people because T3 and T4 change from hour to hour.
Thyroid issues definitely DO affect your overall metabolism (I have been on both sides of it... I lost a lot of weight when I had Graves Disease and a seriously over active thyroid but then gained a bit of weight afterward once they burned out my thyroid and were trying to get the hormone replacement dose right) BUT... Your thyroid would have to be extremely messed up in order to gain or lose 11 pounds in three weeks and you would definitely be seeing a bunch of other symptoms along with it (and even just the T3 value would show a problem). The old "temperature test" for thyroid problems isn't much more than an old wives tale (so I am surprised that he would even ask you).
Your body temperature is affected by many things and naturally goes up and down a small amount throughout the day. Yes, a seriously over active or under active thyroid will affect your temperature a small amount, but, once again, you would be having all sorts of other symptoms that would tell you that something is wrong.
I am not sure what your uncle was having your mom try to look for relative to your thyroid since the thyroid doesn't move when you swallow, and I don't think that nodules on it would move either (and even if you had nodules that were affecting your metabolism, you would still be having other symptoms). There are a couple of types of cysts that can be observed to move when you swallow, but I don't know of any of them that are related to the thyroid.
Contacting your doctor is definitely a good idea since rapid weight gain may be the sin of some kind of problem, but I doubt -- from just the info you have given that the thyroid is the culprit.

I don't know much about thyroid issues. But it sounds like getting the blood work done is a good idea. You might call your uncle back and ask him what specific tests should be done and write them down so you can make sure your doc ordered everything needed.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.

Thanks everone. Kasey listed all the test that my ucle daid that needed to be done. My uncle ask questions like, are my eye lids puffy, am i pale, do i have cold feet and hands, is my hair dry, to my nails breck easy, am i always tried or weak, am i sore, depressen, anitexy (paint attacks) skin rash, been or are insulin resulten* (which i am) dont have normal periods, list goes on. He said that the blood work wouldnt hurt. I know everyday I have to do blood test the one that shows infrection is higher then normaly but they have never looked into it. But idk if that would mean anything or not.
What he was looking for was a goiter. Sometimes if your TSH is high then you will develop a goiter. A thyroid panel is a blood test. Hypothyroidism is usually treated with medicine, but it can take several months to get the correct dose. Other symptoms include being very tired ,intolerance to cold, and dry skin.
