Drinking (Alcohol)
That is a really weird repsonse from your 'friends' - she doesn't like us anymore because we drink??? What's up with that???
I haven't had anything since surgery mostly because I'm nervous about how I'll react AND I don't want to dump or get really really drunk. I also don't want to waste the calories on alcohol.
If someone offered me a drink I'd accept and then ask for a seltzer or coke zero - I can tolerate carbonation without a problem. I don't understand the aversion to someone saying they don't drink either.

As I said goodbye to a girlfriend, Alex... She introduced me to the people she was talking to.... "Hey, this is Emily... She hates us now because she doesn't drink anymore" all I could say was "Hi"..... It hurt me so bad. I don't hate anyone. I was tired. It was late, I had to work the next morning....
I know that I shouldn't hold onto these types of remarks, but how the hell don't you?!
You may need to find better people to hang out with!
People in their 30's should be able to handle that some people don't drink and that some people need to get sleep before work.

I've never been much of a drinker, so no one pushes me. If someone does feel inclined to push a drink on me, I tell them, "Thanks, but I don't drink. My parents are alcoholics." That usually makes them a little uneasy and then they move on.
That is ridiculous, you sound like a mature person and your friends seem very immature. I am going threw somewhat the same thing, my husband and I use to be invited to bbq's, pig roasts, corn roasts and all different types of social gatherings during the summer months and this year not one invite. One friend told me that everyone figured since I can't (and don't want to) drink that I wouldn't want to come. It is true, you know who your friends are when you change something in your life that they don't understand or want to understand. One friend loves that fact that I don't drink, she and my husband can sit and have a few and she knows she will get home safe. I got to the point that I don't care if my so called friends have a problem with me not drinking, it is their problem not mine. The important ones still call and we still hang out. It's their loss not mine.

My husband hasn't had a drink for 35 years , so I have always had to drink for the both of us :) BUT when I knew I was having RNY I stopped , I REALLY want to loose the weight and even a glass of wine a day adds calories.
I keep "planning" to have one for a special occasion but when I think I might , it just doesn't sound so good , so I don't.
PLUS right now I am taking Norco several times a day , and just don't think it's a good idea. I have a feeling if I still had the band I would be drinking because I totally gave up trying to work with it :(

I'm not a drinker either and it has nothing to do with surgery I just don't care for the feeling the next day. When I bartended and someone wanted to buy me a drink I thanked them charged them for a rum and coke rang up the coke I made myself and threw the rest in the tip jar ;) It was a long bar and the good alcohol was on the shelf behind the bar I just turned my back to them and "made" the drink. Dishonest? sure but I got tired of defending myself.

Girl, I'm still pre-op... let's be friends and you can drive!!! .-)
Seriously though ... I am sorry you get grief over it. It might make a drinker feel uncomfortable or judged for having a "bad" habit. I mean, drinking is not exactly good for you. (okay okay Red Wine in moderation and all that aside).
