I was on the medical alert bracelet thread. I'm just wondering why aspirin is a no-no. I don't remember my surgeon saying that.

Aspirin is one of a long list of NSAIDS ( non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). These drugs can cause ulcers easily and really shouldn't be used by anyone who has RNY.

The only time you would be given aspirin in an emergency situation is if you were having a heart attack - personally I'll take my chances with an ulcer, but some people prefer to infer they have an aspirin allergy by putting it on their Medicalert - it's all a personal choice ...

It is not recommended that you use aspirin for pain relief but some people with RNY and heart problems are on aspirin therapy per their doctors orders.

As others have , aspirin is a non-steroidal anti inflammatory, and should be avoided.  That said, in an emergency, such as impending heart attack or stroke, a one time dose of aspirin can be life and brain saving.
