I have only been under anesteisia once 18 years ago for an emergency csection so there was no time to panic. when you had your surgery did they give you something first before wheeling you in like verced to relax you ? do you remember being put out and waking up? Just curious.

thanks helen

I remember them putting the mask on me and smelling the gas. I also remember being semi awake and they were doing something to me that I didn't like and I couldn't move my arms. I don't know if it was before, during or after surgery. I'm thinking it was after when I was in recovery.

Nope, don't remember anything at all, I remember being wheeled down, but never seen the operating room, surgery techs,  or its lights or anything like that, and next thing I know I am in the recovery room!   My friend who is an anesthologist (spell?) told me they induce some sort of thing to create anemsia so you won't remember anything.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

I have had several surgeries and I dont remember any of it.  With the bypass last week, I remember them putting the mask on me and telling me it was just oxygen.... that was it.  :-)  They did have me take something about an hour before and I seemed to be pretty tired.

I think I remembering being told they gave me something to "take the edge off" before surgery. Once the general anesthetic was given, I was told to count backwards. I said a few numbers, and then nothing until waking up in recover. DAVE

My bypass on 5-3-12, was the only surgery I have ever had. I remember being wheeled into the operating room, they introduced the surgical team, then they put the mask on me and next thing I know I was waking up in recovery.

A very cool, but weird feeling. I was amazed that they can do all that to you and you don't feel or remember anything. I had no real pain, it was more of a "hey I know they moved my insides around" type feeling.

Well my surgeon makes his patients walk to the surgery room (to keep blood flowing right until surgery) so I couldn't take anything beforehand. I walked myself onto the table. Looked up and saw the surgery room and bright lights. Nearly panicked. In seconds they put something in my IV and then I was out instantly. That's all I remember until the recovery room.

Walked into operating room. Lay on table, was introduced to team.  Given IV then waking up in recovery.  That's it.

I was given Versed to calm me down in the surgery prep room, but slid myself from the bed to the OR table, and then someone came over and put something in my IV, and asked me to count backwards from 10.  I think I got to 8 before I was out, LOL!   (For my open hernia repair, I was given Versed in the prep area and once on the OR table they gave me something through a mask to put me out (at least initially))

Yes, I remember waking up in the post-op area... being in a tremendous amount of pain (I had open RNY), groaning, and having a nurse say she would give me some more morphine... then I was "out" again and the next time I woke up they were wheeling me into my room.
