what happens when I send the man to the grocery store.

You know, that dude I live with.  That I may be getting back together with but maybe not.  I still don't know how the heck to define our relationship right now.

But anyway, he went grocery shopping today.  The list had stuff on it like cat food, garlic, peaches, etc.  Which he bought, except the garlic, because he said he couldn't find it.  Even though I told him exactly where it would be.

But he also got a TON of junk food.  He got himself a Snickers bar.  He got Chips Ahoy cookies (which I don't care for, so I'm not tempted to eat any).  He got kettle corn.  He got tortilla chips.  He got pretzels.  He got Triscuits.

I kept pulling stuff out of the bags and I couldn't believe he got so much snack stuff.  I asked him if he thought he got enough snacks and he said well, he was hungry when he was at the store.

Never go grocery shopping when you're hungry.  The last time I went shopping when I was really hungry, I came home with two kinds of pickles, all sorts of weird stuff that just sounded really yummy when I was looking at it.

that is why I shop alone.  between what my husband will throw in the cart and what my kids whine for it is just easier to go alone.  AND if I send husband with a list he never can find stuff even if I write the list in aisle order.
The junk food purchase just wasn't very nice.

I just have to laugh because... of course... I love Chips Ahoy cookies!  (I also do NOT like kettle corn.)

Of course you do.  If I like something, you don't.  If I don't like it, I can be pretty sure you will!  When I told you recently you were welcome to come visit, I should have added that if you do, you better bring some food.  Because there is probably nothing in my house that you like to eat!

It's a sure thing that if my husband goes "grocery shopping" he'll bring home frozen pizzas, chips, ice cream, m&m's, etc...  It's ridiculous.  I have long ago managed to not give in to the temptations he brings home.  At this point, I can't eat any of it anyway, it'll make me sicker than a dog.  Today was funny, because I went shopping for some new clothes since most of the clothes I have now dont' fit anymore.  Anyway, when I came home, he'd ordered a pizza, ate it and then was eating a 2lb bag of m&ms.  A little later he was whining because he wasn't feelling too well.  I had no pity for him.  Eventually he decided to go for a walk...which in itself was an awesome thing!  He admitted it tasted good at the time, but later he felt like crap.  So glad I didn't have to participate.

Hopefully someday he'll get onboard with a healthier diet...but I can't afford to go back to where I was. No way!

My husband works at a grocery store.  I still do the shopping.  The only things he brings home are:
Milk
Bread
Ice cream
chips (no longer allowed to buy)
cookies
toilet paper.

That is all we would in our house if he shopped.

I 100% agree with this.  I cannot tell you the weird things I have brought home from the grocery store when I shopped hungry.

I now make it a habit to eat before walking into any store to buy groceries.

For the sake of your budget and your waistline, never, ever shop hungry!!!

Its funny how men have a different read on the grocery list than women do. My husband is pretty good about what I need, and he doesn't snack anymore, so he doesn't bring bad things into the house. . . but I've totally experienced telling him where the garlic (or insert any other thing) will be and him not being able to find it.

I'm still pre-op and struggle to get used to a new way of thinking about food.

The hubby knows this but still there was a bag of chips in the cart at the first store we went to. I allowed it.
Then we went to the second store and he comes walking with 2 containers of Pringles. I just said "What are you doing?"
He already had his one bag of chips...why the Pringles too? I was kinda pissed but tried not to overreact.

Then that night he had a 1300 calorie pizza why I ate my salmon, salad and pita. He then gets all on the defensive when I critize his eating. "It's only one "

I am not that strong and if someone sticks fries or chips under my nose I WILL eat them.

I'm sure he does get defensive if you criticize his eating.  I get defensive if someone criticizes my eating.  Doesn't matter if I know they are right or not.  I'm an adult and I get to choose what I eat.  I don't like being criticized for my choices.

It is hard not to eat the chips and stuff when they are around.  I almost never buy that kind of stuff myself.  I am the one that usually does the shopping, but when he goes shopping, he can buy what he wants.  I'd rather he didn't buy so many snack foods and I've told him that it's hard for me to resist that stuff when it's in the house.  But I'm the one that decided to change my diet and lose weight.  He didn't choose that.  He's allowed to eat what he wants to eat.

There are ways to deal with this.  Sometimes I actually write his name on his snack food.  It's like a reminder to me that it's his, not mine.  Seems kind of silly, I know, but whatever works, right?  I've considered asking him to keep the chips in his car or something, where I don't have access to it.
