Poll for those that don't take vitamins regularly
I'll be honest I dont always remember them. I take my D3 every morning with my morning meds and I always take my calcium with D3 chew before bed. The iron is nasty but I was told to take it in liquid form so it absorbs better. I try and take it but I usually throw it back up. I also take a multi-vitamin mid day.
I was given a little card that said what i should be taking. Here is what it says:
" Protein 50-60grams/per day for females
Proteint 60-70grams/per day for males
Multivitamin 2 chewable childrens or 1 centrum liquid A to Zinc.
Calcium: 1000mg/day
B12 sublingual 500mcg.day or monthly shot of 1000mcg/month
Carb 25-50 grams/day
Menstruating women 30mg of Iron."

Wow. Most of the items you were told are lower than what is recommended by the ASMBS for RNYers... The lower calcium, especially, may bite you down the road since blood calcium levels do not tell you whether it is from your food/vitamins or from what your body is extracting from your bones... So the only way you find out is when your bone density scan shows bone loss. I would strongly encourage you to increase the calcium citrate.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Kelly,
A friend of mine who is 2 years out next month has NEVER had a protein shake and only did B12 shots once a month. After seeing another post here today I messaged her and she said that over the past weekend she went to a WLS seminar with a friend and heard things she didn't hear before. This happens to many people when given alot of information to take in.
I don't know what she heard but she has started taking multi, calcium, and still does her b12. I don't believe she will ever do a protein shake though. Anyway her reason, and I love her for her honesty... laziness!

Well, I don't think protein shakes are necessary, providing she gets adequate protein from food. Many people do by the time they are two years out.
I do think vitamins are necessary, though.

I take my vitamins without missing!! HOWEVER - I can say that it was challenge to fit all the vitamins in and make sure I took them at the proper times for absorption (calcium)reasons.
How ironic though that I had this surgery because I was starting to comorbidities in my future and did not want to end up taking alot of medication... yea, I actually take more pills now (even though they are vitamins.)
I feel really good right now and would be afraid that not taking vitamins would cause the opposite.
BTW, thank you for sharing all your research, I have learned quite alot from you!

I'm guilty!! I get them in most days now... But it's hard for me. I still have trouble getting food into my pouch. Nothing goes in there until I eat solid food. But, solid food hurts me so... I put it off... And put them off.. And the next thing I know it's four pm I still haven't eaten and I'm behind the eight ball for time. It isn't that I don't know they are SOOOO important to my health.. The problem in my pouch just won't let me eat and I cannot take them on an empty gut. It's a very frustrating issue for me and one that I work on everyday.
