I just got notice that ive been approved by my insurance for the surgery and I have some questions because im having a hard time finding anyone at all to talk to about all my thoughts and feelings about this. It's overwhelming. When I started this process six months ago I never thought id be approved, just thought id give it a try, why not?

So my surgery is scheduled for Nov 15th and I had kind of an embarrasing question
If you get your period do they not do the surgery?
Also, are you naked when they do it?
And how does the anestesia feel? I'm scared of going under, ive never been under before and I have this persistent fear that ill never wake up!
Also, and I know this is strange but sometimes I have an over active bladder that gets worse when im nervous (no matter what i ddrink) and im worried about having to pee a ton of times while they are trying to prep me before hand
Also, have any of you dealt with a mental disorder, and if so did your hormones get more regular and less depressed? I ask this because I know it gets rid of diabetes, so im wondering if it can regulate the mental chemicals in the brain too

I forgot, I have some more questions

How much sagging skin will I have, or do you usually have?
How bad is the pain when you wake up?
Also in settings how do I change my doctor? I can't find it anywhere

Hi Robyn
Dont let the neves drive you crazy :)
If you get your period they will deal with it people have surgery everyday they can handle it

You go into the operating room with a gown on, you will scoot over onto the table with tour gown on.
They take off/ move it after you are "sleeping" you wont lie there naked awake.

The anastesia (for me) did not really feel like anything.....My surgery I had an assistant sitting behing me looking over my head he talked to me rubbed my head and made sure I was calm, last thing I remember is him saying have a nice nap....then remember walking up in recovery with a nurse asking me if I wanted to see my husband...i mumbled Nooo im tired....lol finally woke up but memory is really iffy i kinda remember them moving me in the elevator to my room, but I dont remember going into my room, I just kinda remember being in there.

Dont worry about having to pee they will let you go up to when its time to wheel u in, I had a catherter for surgery and untill 6am thenext day.

I dont know about any mental disorders. Good Luck and really try not to stress :)

You cant really figure how much saggy skin you have. It depends. how much weight do you have to loose? how much does your skin have?
Right now I have lost 56 lbs...my arms are a bit jiggly and my belly the stretch mark area is a little saggy. nothing extreme yet.
too many varibles to know how you will look in the end, MOST important thing is you will be heatly, they skin can be dealt with, tru surgery or some good spanx type garments.

as far as pain goes, I was one of the lucky ones. I had NO pain. the worst I felt was gas pressure and a crampy feeling. It was sore but I would not lable it as pain. They will keep you medicated just let them know your pain level ( they asked me everytime on a scale of 1-10 how is your pain) they will really take care of you. Dont be afraid ti tell them if you are in alot of pain.

You probably won't have a bladder issue because you can't eat or drink after midnight ( usually) the night before your surgery.. I have the same issue.. They will let you get up to pee before they put your IV in.. After that it all happens pretty quickly .. I don't remmber anything after they put me on the table. I woke up the next day in my room with a catheter. Its totally normal to be nervous and have questions.. If you are on your period just let a nurse know.. They know how to take care of you :)
Good luck!

I got my period 3 days before my operation. In the prep area before surgery the nurse made me wear a pad which because you can't wear panties, you had to wedge between your legs and just hope it stayed!
When they transferred me from the gurney to the operating table the mattress beneath me filled with air and it floated me over to the table! How cool! It was like being on an air hockey table lol!

Everyone in the room was super nice, they understood your fears and were totally calming to me. I was wrapped up in blankets like a cocoon. They stick the monitors for your heart on you under the blankets, I guess these people do so many folk that they can do this blindfolded!

They place the plastic face mask over you and tell you to breathe deep, 3 breaths and I was out until I was in the recovery room. Very cool. No pain just a sleepy tired feeling. I was on morphine so nothing bothered me. I had no drains, no catheter...they made me empty my bladder before surgery a few times.

I was in hospital for 2 nights instead of 1 because I didn't think I needed pain meds, so when the morphine was finished I just asked for tylenol for the discomfort. Mistake. Take the heavy pain killers and do not feel anything. My surgeon said I should have done that instead of trying to brave the pain. Your body needs to recuperate and relax and mend. Not be stressed over any pain.

By the time I went home, no pain really just a pulling stretched feeling. I'm 48 so my skin is going to be saggy to a degree and I know I'll need more surgeries to get rid of all the skin. I punished my body for years being fat, I know it won't be an easy journey but it will be worth it.

I got my period while i was getting prepped. They do a urine screen on all women to make sure they aren't pregnant, and when i went in for that, boom, i had started. awesome lol. they gave me the annoying mesh underwear with a pad. you go in in a gown and they remove it once you are under.

for me - the iv was the worst (i have tough veins, multiple tries), but the actual going under doesn't feel like anything. i can relate to the fear of not waking up, i had it big time - but it's quite rare and of course everything turned out ok.

hormones get worse before they get better, imo. rny also is not a guarantee to get rid of diabetes, there is just a high success rate. i was an emotional wreck for quite some time after surgery, it is an intense emotional journey, in addition to all the physical changes going on.

when i first woke up, i was in a lot of pain, but i was also in and out of being awake. they give you pain meds.

congrats and good luck!

I remember very little, except that my husband was about to pass out while they were getting me ready for the anesthesia so they let me call our son to hurry up and take care of his dad. They started the IV drip that kept me calm and I may remember scooting off that cart to the operating table. The next thing I was in my room and feeling groggy. They didn't make me get up and walk as soon as they said they would.

You will be wearing nothing at all except a hospital gown and they don't want that tied. If you happen to have two X chromosomes and have your monthly visitor chances are they will care less and if it's really really bad they will have you wear a tampon.

Anesthesia feels like your watching TV and then first the picture goes fuzzy and then blackness.

If you have a fear of not waking up, ask the Dr if they will preform a reversal on you when it comes times to wake you up. You will feel like you just got hit by a lightening bolt!

You will be off caffeine for at least a week before the surgery. I don't think your bladder issue will be that much of a problem and it's not unique to females.

I think if your think your crazy you just might be saner than the majority of people out there.
