I am almost six months post op, I have an area directly under my belly button (about the size of my hand) that has been completely numb since coming out of surgery. I also had an area right above my butt that was numb after surgery but it has since returned to normal. My surgeon did a wonderful job and I've had a great recovery so  this is something I can completely live with if it doesnt return to normal. I do have to be careful when I zip up my jeans, I have caught it in my zipper and not even realized, luckily it doesnt hurt.
A friend of mine has numbness since her c section a few years ago but I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this with RNY.
I do have my 6 month appt coming up with my surgeon and I will ask him, but again I am just curious what you guys thought.

Was there an incision near the area?  If yes, it's pretty typical.  Just like your friend, I can't feel my lower abdomen due to a C-section.  It may or may not have feeling again.  I know what being careful with a zipper is like!!! LOL

Well kind of, there was one of the small incisions directly above my belly button. It was a very small one but I guess nerve damage can happen no matter the size of the incision. It's just weird, the numbness over my butt, that has healed, had no incision nearby (obviously) I guess thats why I'm so confused by it all...Thanks for your response!

LOL I don't blame ya, I would think the one above your butt was weird too if it was me!  My C-section incision was right at the bikini line but the numbness goes almost up to my belly button, so it can travel.  My guess is that's what it is.  I wouldn't worry too much.  Hopefully it goes away!

I actually had a lot of surgeries prior to my RNY, and yes all of them had some numbness on or near the surgical scar. It lasted a while on most actually. But most of mine have had the tingle/numbness go away. I too had my butt cheek go numb, but it was from a back surgery (L4-L5) in 2009, and it's still numb...literally a pain in the butt when I sit too long. I would just check with the surgeon so they have it documented in your chart.

My lower abdomen is totally numb ... from c-sections, hysterectomy, panniculectomy and there are numb patches on my upper abdomen around the incision sites and especially around the crater type healed wound where my ostomy site was following my post op complication ... I have to be very careful ... before I had my panniculectomy done I burned my flap really bad leaning over the dresser - my belly rested on my curling iron and I did not even feel it resulting in a 2nd degree burn ... I have numb areas on my arms too following my modified brachioplasty that I should have held off on IMO....

Numbness around the incision area is quite common and oftentimes temporary.. in some cases it is not .. I had lower abdominal numbness before my panni and my RNY ... and the numbness remains...

Glad I am not the only one, LOL!  Because my tummy tuck turned necrotic and I had a huge, deep wound, I have no feeling ****il I apply slight pressure) up the entire middle of my stomach and under my breasts (i had a "reverse" tummy tuck since i had already had the panniculectomy), along one small section of my panniculectomy, and on a couple of places on my arms from the brachioplasty.  I also have numbness at a former drain site on the outside of my hip from the removal of a rump-roast sized lipoma a few years before my RNY.

These surgeries were several years ago, so the numbness is permanent.

I also have something very close to that. My stomach around my belly button when I touch it feels very numb and tingly. My primary care docotor had said that it was most likely a result from the surgery
my i also have that same feeling up and down my legs. on the side and on the back and up my thighs. I haven't had any other surgiers and there was no incisions any where near my thights or lower legs. My PCP thinks it might be my body getting used to running. She wasn't so worried becuase it was on both sides in the same spots, she said if it was just one leg she would be concerned.
