okay so im 2 weeks and 3 days post op. i went to urgent care last friday and they said my stomach is producing a lot of acid which is causing my throat to close. they gave me antibiotics and codeine. and said take it for 4 days. yesterday i felt good and today i woke up worse now my chest hurts along with throat closing which is causing me to barely get any liquids in.  i dont know what to do. i usually take prevacid and obviously its not working... what should i do .. its the worst feeling ever having a pit in my throat and feeling like im restricted air. ???

Yes! My husband is a doc and works in family practice AND in an urgent care center. The greatest mistake people make is treating the urgent care facility as an ER. Urgent care is not an emergency care facility. It is just like a doctor's office EXCEPT they don't have any information about you nor do they have access to many of the tests needed to treat you. It can handle the things that need to be seen but can't get a quick enough appointment with the doc. They are NOT for major medical emergencies.

Have you been in touch with your surgeon about this problem? If you are unable to keep any fluids down or are in bad pain, I would call my surgeon's on call service and talk to them. They will either direct you to the ER or schedule to see you in the office during the week. You should definitely demand to be seen about this ASAP! Good luck to you!

Call your surgeon first thing Monday morning.  Don't mess around.

Thank you everyone.  I just got home from the er.  They were no help. They wouldn't call my surgeon yet it's the hospital I had it down with.  Gave me mylanta and said it was no emergency. I'm calling my surgeon first thing in the morning. The medicine he have me is still not helping.

I had same problem. It was because of a stricture. My dr did EGD with dilataion and I feel better. I'm also on 80mg prilosec and carafate to help with the acid.

Hi Ashley, I am 12 days post op and I am still on Nexium. Thank goodness I have not had any acid issues.  My surgeon said that the new stomach can produce alot of acid while it is healing and it is important to keep that from happening.  Maybe he can switch you to Nexium? Good Luck....

All due respect, you should have already been in contact with your surgeon and NOT using urgent care. This is obviously surgery related.
