Two weeks post-op and too "full" to drink?? And emotions

Tomorrow marks 2 weeks post op for me and I flat do not want to drink anything.  I feel very full and that's with only about 3 oz of fluid in me for the day.  I've not had issues getting fluids in before, but today it feels like I am having to force it.  I've been up for about 3 hours and I should've already cleared 15 oz or more.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with constipation, but perhaps it does?

I'm not hungry.  I'm not thirsty.  The chronic dieter in me feels like if I'm not hungry or thirsty I don't need to put anything into my body, but I know since I've had surgery, I need to ensure I stay hydrated.

Anyone have recommendations, have you experienced this?  I'm such a rookie and I don't know what to expect.

Not to mention my emotions are more tumultuous worse than a roller coaster in a tornado.  Is that normal?  I mean...I yelled at my dogs last night.  That's not like me.  They are my "children" and they've been so good to me and it was over NOTHING.  Recommendations for stabilization of emotions?

Thanks for reading even if you haven't any guidance.

I know how you feel being just 3 weeks post-op. For the last week I havent been able to reach my 800 calorie goal, 50 grams of protein or 8 glasses of water. Its like the days food is making me fill up like a pitcher. Yesterday it was better though and I got all my calories and protein in.....the water is still lacking. I am told it gets better over time (really getting tired of that one, lol) and that our pouches will increase in size and stop making us feel this way. Of course we have to make sure not to overfill even when it gets bigger. Good luck and hang in there.

I had to find liquids that I really enjoyed. The idea of water made me nauseated. I dran**** cold Grape Propel for weeks 2-7. Then cold water sounded appealing to me again and I haven't looked back. If you don't get the fluids in, you WILL feel worse and may end up back in the hospital getting fluids. Sip, sip, sip. We no longer only drink when we are thirsty. We drink to keep us hydrated NOT to rehydrate us like we used to. Good luck! Do your best!

"I'm not hungry. I'm not thirsty." - Eat and drink (not together) anyway. Do the best you can. Especially drinking--you will end up in bad shape not taking in any liquids.

"Not to mention my emotions are more tumultuous worse than a roller coaster in a tornado. Is that normal?" ----Yes, it's normal. Alot of hormones are stored in the fat. You are shedding the fat and the hormones are "flowing" (if you will) into your system. Be aware of it. YOu might also need an antidepressant if it's chronic (if you're not already on one). Or you might need any such meds adjusted.

Hang in there!

Force yourself to drink--the alternative is hospitalization.  Likely, your urine is getting darker. This shows you're getting dehdrated, which can also cause kidney damage. My wife used to drink a couple of gallon before her RNY revision. I had my RNY 2 years earlier, and I warned her repeatedly to drink MORE water.  10 days after surgery, she's back in the hospital for dehydration.  She was on a PIC line for 3-4 days. It was not a pleasant site.

Hormones go crazy during the first few months post op.  Mood swings, high emotions, possible depression, anxiety, etc. are not uncommon.  If you think your current issues are becoming overwhelming, I strongly urge you to get professional counseling with possible medication. DAVE

I also had barriatric surgery on Sept 4.   I did very well with the actual surgery part of it, but having issues getting my protien in.   I cant drink the protein shakes because they bloat me and give me a lot of abd gas.  I am drinking some of the chicken soup protien and am on to phase two which is cottage cheese, yogurt, s/f applesauce, overcooked veggies and scrambled egg.  Last night I could try baked fish which I did.  I immediately got a large amt of gas, belching and endfed up vomiting 4 hrs later.  First time since surgery.   I am a nurse and will be going back to work in 2 weeks.  Now even after walking around Meijers or doing a few chores, I am tired,  any help or advice out there.   Getting concerned.   Seeing doctor tomorrow.  I do feel better than last week though.

Take it from someone who was back in the hospital TWICE due to dehydration - SIP SIP SIP!!!  Like most others said, you wont feel hungry or thirsty, but you have to do it.  I think it's the hardest part.  Like someone else said - find a beverage other than water, like crystal light, powerade zero, propel, etc.  It gets easier, you just have to push through.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thank you everyone for your help and guidance on both of my issues!  I've been sipping all morning and even though I'm not where I should be for my water/liquid intake for the day, i'm better than I was.

Still sippin'
Sarah :)

If you don't drink you intestines will take the fluids out of your bowls and you will become de-hydrated.  I am speaking from experience that you don't want to go through that.  so far this has been the worst thing about my surgery post-op.

I am also trying to get some fruits for prunes in to help things move along.

Make sure you are non constricted. I had trouble eating or drinking everything...I would throw up everything, turns out I was constricted. Had endoscopy and was dilated from 5 to 10 cm. Doing much better now. But as others tell you make sure there are liquids in you.
