Do most people have complications or not?
Hi, I am 2 weeks post op now. I didnt really have any complication, just my surgeon said I had an unusually small, "Small Intestine" so it took him about 90 mins longer to do my RNY. I came home with a drain for a week, which I did not anticipate , but he took that out in one week and I have been FINE since then...... The best thing I can say is AVOID reading all those problem stories at this point. If you are like most of us, you have done your research and have thought about this for a LONG time, so don't let your fears derail you at this point. Good Luck !

Mine has gone smooth as silk... easy-peasy (relatively speaking)... and my one-year surgiversary is next month
But I guess it also depends on what you consider a "complication". For some people, getting food stuc****asionally is a complication. For others, nearly dying of an infection is a complication. I suspect many of us fall in the middle somewhere.

Great advice to stay clear of surching on YouTube or anywhere else that has negative experiences of the WLS. I do beleive that the negatives are far far less than the positives! Let it not scare you. You have gone through the process to getting your surgery date, so you have talked to numerous persons in the process if you are like most of us. You are going into this knowing that there are risks as there is with ANY SURGERY. But the life long results that you can make happen with your new tool will be so great if you use it wisely and keep focus for you life long journey.
Hang in there, I am sure that you will do fine! Alot of things also have changed in procedures since some of those YOUTUBE videos were created. We each will have different outcomes as we are all uniquely made indvidually human!
Best wishes and you will have to let us know how you are doing on the other side of the WLS losers bench!
Have you ever gone to a WLS surgery support group pre surgery? Are there any in your area? I advise persons to do this as it will give you a wide spectrum from the recent to the old timers post opps. It also will usually have persons that are pre op. You may find it useful after surgery for ideas and support.
hugs,
Sherrie

I don't think there's a TON of complications out there. Not major complications at least. Surepeople can get bowel obstructions, or strictures, or ulcers, etc.... But the big complications are very rare. AND they make headlines because no one talks about the thousands of people who get the surgery and have absolutely no complications - But they will talk about the 1 person who did have one. Know what I mean?
Doing research is great - good for you! Just try and keep a level head and not stress out too much. It's a LOT to take in even if your surgery is next week.
Good luck!
