Oh - so sorry you're having pain.  Did you lap or open?  If lap it is probably gas from expanding the abdomen for surgery.  It does get better.

I got the laproscopic surgery.  I think a lot of what still really hurts is the air in my tummy.  I'd like to just get it all out, but it's not coming out very quickly.

I just really hope that everyone's tales about it getting better a week after surgery are true!

Also... I haven't been super close to the diet (on the low end!)  I haven't been able to eat much or drink much at all.  But now I'm really thirsty.  I just drank 4 oz of water in an hour (although, really slowly!)  but that's twice the amount they reccomend.

As long as drinking doesn't cause any discomfort, drink as much as you are able.  You cannot hurt your pouch with liquids.

Lora.  Thanks!  I'm so thirsty and drinking 1 oz of liquids every 15 minutes isn't really cutting it.  I think I'm going to call the doctor's to double check today, but I'm really struggling with that.  I've always been a serious drinker (or water) so it's hard to stop myself.

The OUCH OUCH is only there for a few days for most post ops. Walking will help remove surgical gas.  The BIGGER challenge is getting enough fluids and tolerating foods in the coming days.  Unless you really like being in the hospital, drink 64 or more oz of water daily.  You'll likely feel miserable getting in these fluids too. Drink 2 oz every 15 minutes. Set a timer.  Take out 4 of the 16 oz bottles of water and put in fridge or on kitchen counter. When you go to bed, all 4 of these bottles should be empty.  DAVE

Congrats on the surgery! I am in my 3rd week after Lap RNY. I felt great (as long as I took my pain meds). Just remember that the pain meds constipate you. It took 6 days for me to have a bowel movement. I kept trying to get myself out of bed without help & ended up hurting myself; so get help and don't do that. My family gave me a recliner and that has been my best friend!! I am taking the pain meds only 1-2 times a day. Today none, just Tylenol (liquid). I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. Try not to overdo. I haven't yet exercised, because, I just cannot.....but I am down to 310 from 332 the day of surgery. That is shocking me, daily!! It is miserable....but every day is different. I can't say always better, cause I get anxious and cannot sit still. Let yourself heal! Wishin you the best!

I, had my surgery last week (9/10) and I came home on the 12th . I have to say I have had the same thoughts and difficulties as you are having.

I went through a very indepth 6 month pre surgery program that included a 2wk liquid diet prior to surgery and now I have up to 8-10 wks of a restricted diet including 2 wks of liquids.

even though I thought that I was more than prepared for anything that came, I found myself frustrated, tired, and emotional, I also had a hernia repair done @ the same time( my surgeon likes 2 multitask while in there !) so I had pain from that along w/ the gas pain.

but, now that im 9 days out, I feel so much better, still a little weak and tired but way better, so just hang in there.

My doctor uses something called the On-Q pain pump. You go home with it and about day 3 post-op, you just simply tug on the very small tubing and it comes right out. I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN POST-OP!! I haven't heard many other people mention they had the On-Q pain pump but more doctors should use it. I don't know what the pain med is inside it, but if I had this with my other surgeries, recovery would have been so much easier.

Be sure you try to move and walk around your house as much as possible. The more you move the faster the soreness will go away.

My surgeon also uses the On-Q pain pump and I had no pain either. I had never heard of it before but I agree more doctors should use it!
