Would almost rather be sick! -OT

So I have not been feeling well the past couple of days, but I was pretty sure I had a bladder infection. This morning I woke up and was pretty uncomfortable. So, I went to urgent care and Mr Dr walked in and said, Yes in fact I had a pretty bad bladder infection.. ugh.
Well he went to fax off a script to the Walgreen's and I stopped him to make sure what kind of pills he was giving me, explaining that I had gastric bypass and could not take certain ones. He said, oh yes these are capsules that you should not take apart. Well that's no good! so he said, lets just do liquid!
Okay, yeah we can do that I guess... IF YOU ARE EVER OFFERED LIQUID ANTIBIOTICS---RUN!!!
OK that may be a bit dramatic, but the pharmacist made it into grape, which is not my favorite, but when you down the 2 oz of crap, you get about .000001 seconds of grape then instant medication that kinda tasted like melted aspirin/vicodine. It was awful and almost didn't stay where I put it. I am staring at the bottle now, about to take the next dose, questioning if I'd rather just be sick. Of course I will take it for the next 5-6 days, but I am going to whine about it all the way!!!
On the plus side I am down to 218. I was 180 this time last year, I did a little jig on the scale and my hubby gave me a big "look your below 220!" hug.. it was a happy moment.

I feel the same way about the Carafate (ulcer med) that I have to take 4x a day! (Also, it has to be taken an hour before meals and meds and 1 hour after meds and 2 hrs after meals. It is a nightmare to get it and fluids/meals/meds in every day!)

It wasn't pills he wanted me to take it was capsules which we are not supposed to take. I was told we had to open the capsule up and mix the contents with applesauce or something, but this medication he ordered said not to open the capsule. I might call my regular Dr in the am and see if she can give me a pill form of something to take. I have no problems taking actual pills, I think he just thought liquid was easy that way he didn't have to find something that wasn't a capsule.

well my Dr said no.. but I just googled it and a couple of sites say that after your stomach has healed you can take them again. Im only 2 months out, so he may not want the capsules sitting in my stomach yet

Oh ok,good thing I didn't need antibiotics, like in first few months post op, I would have had no idea to ask for something else! On my next check up I'll ask my dr if it's safe for me to take now that I'm 8 months out... I am sorry you aren't feeling well, but glad you made this post!

WOW, who knew. I've been taking probiotic capsules since about three weeks after surgery with no issues. The end of this month, I'll be two months out.
The one thing I've learned from reading all these posts is all these surgeons have different guidelines/rules. And some of them simply don't make sense. If you can swallow a capsule with no problem, why shouldn't your have one? I don't get it.
Anyway, feel better soon!

I think every doctor has a different view on this - i was sent home taking pills with zero restrictions as to the kind. sorry you need to take such yucky stuff!
