Chewing Gum
Is there anything wrong with chewing gum after you eat? Is that like drinking even though you are swallowing saliva
I chew gum all the time. I've never noticed that I swallow much saliva, so I don't give it a second thought. I think some surgeons discourage gum chewing because they think we will swallow it, but really, who swallows gum on purpose?! Not too many people once they get past childhood.

Thanks everyone :) I'm gonna keep on chewing it helps after I eat also till I can have something to drink
I ALWAYS keep gum handy at work. I've realized since surgery just how much I've "eaten away" my emotions and stress over the years. So, when school started again, I decided that I needed an alternative to snacking. Sugar-free gum seems to work for me - it keeps my mouth busy, but I'm not eating candy bar or whatever else I may find to munch on.
There have been a few posts about gum lately, so I asked my surgeon's office why it would be a problem. They said it causes gas for some people or actually causes them to seek out other foods to eat. That's not the case for me, so I'm sticking with it. It's the lesser of two evils.
Serious Gum chewer here. I have it everywhere....pocket, briefcase, desk, file cabinet, pantry, junk drawer, every purse, car, and I'm sure a few places I forgot to mention too. I'd call it my transfer addiction, but I was a chewer pre-op too. Right now my favorite is Dentine Fire, but Trident bubble gum only just recently took 2nd place. Once in a while, I like a nice chew of rootbeer float or apple pie flavored.

Another option is Listerine breath strips, or brushing your teeth.
