Newly joined...1 week post op
Hey! I had my RNY surgery one week ago today. Doing great and haven't even taken any pain meds since leaving the hospital. However, I had an allergic reaction to something that was given to me at the hospital and now I"m broken out in a rash/hives all over my torso, arms, and legs. Itching all over and it is miserable! I have never been allergic to anything before and sure paying the price now. Went to the dr. and got a steroid shot and meds so I should be on the mend soon!
I'm 12 days post-op, and I'd never had surgery before, so I had no idea what to expect either. It seems like a lot of people don't have much pain, but I'll be honest with you about mine: It hurt, and it hurt bad. I'm still in quite a bit of pain (can't bend over very far, can't lay on my side, sneezing, coughing, & laughing are painful), but it gets better every day. Having not had surgery before, I couldn't have imagined how much it would hurt. During the worst part, I just had to keep telling myself it'd be worth it. And it is - I've already lost 18 lbs, and haven't really had much trouble with any of the food I've tried post-op. So yes, it will probably hurt, but it doesn't last too long. Good luck!
Just like you, I have had really good luck with the post-op foods...of course, I am strictly following the doctor's guidelines. Today I fixed a big pot of pinto beans with a very small amount of ham (trimmed the fat off) in them for my family. I just ate some of the broth/juice from them and oh, my gosh, was it every good...made my day! I wish you continued good luck!

Hey Stephanie! I have had surgery before and I can't say this is anymore painful than others I have had. Once you get past the first 24 hrs., it drastically improved each day for me. For me the key was getting up walking 4 hrs. after surgery...made a BIG difference. I wish you the best of luck...the 3 weeks will fly by!

Hey Carol! I haven't started journaling yet, but I do intend to. It has been quite a journey so far! I have never been allergic to anything before. The doctor reviewed the notes from the surgeon and she thinks it is the antibiotic that was given to me before and after surgery. I have been putting ice packs (frozen vegetables) on it tonight and that has helped ALOT with the itching.
