It is scary and I think we all have that deer in the headlights reaction the closer we get to surgery. I'm sure you will be fine and we will be here for you on the flip side. Good luck and keep us posted.

This is a totally normal reaction. If you have done your research and trust your surgeon you will be fine. Before you know it it will all be over and you will be beginning a new healthier life. Do what your doctor and his staff say and when you have questions or need encouragement come here.

Hi Melanie!

My surgery is on Wednesday too. I'm just nervous.  Don't fret, you'll do just fine! I'll say a prayer for you on Wednesday too! wink

Deep breath!!  I'm down over 170 lbs and feel 1000% better.  I'm sure you've gone over all the pros and cons prior to scheduling.  Try to distract yourself with a good book or movie.

I did too much reading, etc and worked myself up to the point of asking my PCP for anxiety meds. he gave me a weeks worth and it helped alot. Sometimes you just have to go with a prescription...

It's only been three weeks, but I would do it again.

I was so nervous the day before my surgery. My stomach was so upset because of the nerves that when I had to do the bowel prep, there was nothing left. The anesthesiologist told me to take a Xanax the night before, a Xanax in the morning, and when I got there, they gave me Versed.

I was so lucky to have an amazing set of nurses. Every four hours they came in with a dose of Xanax and a dose of Dilauded. I felt NO pain, and I remember very little about my hospital stay. What I do remember was ridiculously pleasant. My sister came to visit at some point, and said I kept complaining because my pizza hadn't arrived, and it had been longer than 30 minutes.

Don't be a hero. Take the pain meds, and don't be scared to ask for more if it hurts.

I think that I am the only person that went in the hospital with a smile and was happy to get surgery. (I'm not normal) Try to relax remember that you are in good hands.
