Hair tips
Well, I think I'm starting to lose some hair. Ugh! My hair is my pride and joy, so losing it is not going to sit well with me. Yes, I'm taking my vitamins and getting all my protein in, and yes, I realize hair loss is a possible side effect of surgery. I can still be upset, right?
Anyway, does anyone have ethnic hair and want to share some tips? My hair is fine, but I have A LOT of it. And, I have 2-3 different textures going on, even though it's curly. I'm realizing the products I have now just aren't cutting it. I need more in my products, you know?
EDIT: I should clarify that I'm not looking for hair growth products--more moisturizing ones. I didn't make that clear before because I was ranting about losing my hair. LOL

This is right at the time most people start to experience some hair loss. It works that way because what happens is, at any given time, about 10% of your hair is in a "resting phase." It rests for about three months, then falls out and new hair grows in. But the general anesthesia can cause more hair than normal to go into that resting phase, about 30%, usually. So then three months later that starts to fall out and it's noticably more than usually. Also, a lack of protein or calories in the beginning can also cause more hair to go into that resting phase.
So nothing you do right this minute is gonna keep that hair that's already in that resting phase from falling out. However, getting all your protein and vitamins now will get your hair back to normal so that in two or three months, it won't be falling out more than usual.

Good to know! :) I knew it was a possibility, and it definitely is coming out more so than ever. I never lost my hair when I was pregnant, so I was hoping this time around, it would be very little. Oh well!
I need to change my products anyway. It's the fall/winter season, and everything is drier. I usually change up my products about now anyway, but my hair really needs a little extra TLC this season. I just feel like I need to make the switch to ethnic hair products because the other products just aren't cutting anymore. My hair has changed since having my daughter, and now after surgery, it's going through more changes.

I don't have ethnic hair but I do/did have a ton of fine hair. I lost a lot, starting around month three and it just kept falling and falling and falling. I finally cut it pretty short about 3 months ago and even though I felt like I had lost a lot of hair (my pony tail holder that I could previously get around only twice was going around 4 times with no trouble) my hairdresser said she couldn't really tell, that I just looked like I had a normal amount of hair. I just kept up with my normal protein, vitamins, water, food, etcetera and the hair loss dropped off to a normal amount. So, I'm not sure that special stuff to promote hair growth or fight hair fall is really necessary. Of course, I'm kind of a cheapo and don't like to buy extra stuff :)
I don't have ethnic hair, but I have curly hair that is dry. I like the Aussie brand deep conditioner for everyday use. I sometimes use the cleansing conditioner made by Loreal on my daughter's hair. It does help with dryness, but I still think she needs a separate conditioner. She and I both have lots of fine hair, but hers only has a slight wave while mine is full on curly.
I fight badgers with spoons.

I second the Aussie products, they are great. I use the daily conditioner and a few times a week i Use the 3 minute miracle. I have very long hair, down to my waist and I am freaked waiting for it to fall out. lol
