Pain medication questions for upcoming surgery
I apparently have to have an abdominal hysterectomy and I am having it soon... December 13th kind of soon... I am a little nervous... but mostly about what medicines I can or can't have... After my RNY I was given hydrocodone when I came home... but it made me oh so sick after a few days of using it so I quit taking it... I am not sure what they will give me in the hospital but I think they mentioned Morphine... Is that safe for us? Any help in what I should or shouldn't allow would be greatly appreciated... I'm making notes for the hubby as well since I'm sure I'll be out of it a lot... heck one Tylenol PM and I'm out for days lol... On a positive note I will be having a "mini tummy tuck" included and nothing the hubby can dispute about it... haha ;)
Thanks in Advance

I just had elective surgery and yes, morphine is ok. For pain, I was prescribed liquid Lortab and then transitioned to liquid tylenol (generic CVS). I know the Lortab is a combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen but maybe in lower doses it won't make you ill? I was also prescribed anti-nausea pills in case the meds made me sick but they did not. Maybe you can ask for the anti-nausea pills for 'just in case'?
Sending wishes for successful surgery and speedy recovery!

I also had an epidural during my hysterectomy and it was a piece of cake. They gave me a bolus dose before they removed it right after surgery. I never had much pain at all. Best surgery I ever had (in terms of pain).

Hydrocodon make me sick also. My doc suggested taking a small Benadryl together with the pain pill. That not only helped the itching but also with the nausea and overall sick feeling.
