Be careful you'll stretch your pouch, lol.  Just joking, I'll occasionally have a diet drink and burp like a sailor.  Sometimes it's just nice to have a soda.  Before surgery I couldn't drink Diet Coke for anything now I love it.  What I won't keep around is Diet Sunkist, oh my word it's sooo good.

Soda got me to where I was a year ago. Not much of a fan of going back to that lifestyle, as I drank my calories. I say if it makes you happy, then go for it! As Nik always sez, "Your mileage may vary". Cheers!!

I do have a soda "mocktail" that I like....

1/2 apple/cranberry juice and 1/2 diet Sprite over crushed ice....I stir it a bit to kill some of the bubbles.....yummy.

I don't drink soda because I don't like it. I'm not going to throw stones at your soda habit. I have my own caffeine habit to manage. I think it's ridiculous that some doctors still push the myth that carbonation will stretch the stomach. It's insulting to us that they think they cannot simply say they think soda should be avoided for whatever reason, but instead they perpetuate an outright lie.

Note to doctors: Fat, or formerly fat, doesn't equal stupid.

I drink a diet soda more days than not (at 5 years out). That's more than I would like from an intellectual standpoint, but FAR less than I drank when I was SMO. My surgeon did not "forbid" it, but did discourage it. She was realistic enough to know that many people would go back to drinking it, so she emphasized moderation.

My fridge and pantry currently have Pepsi Max, Cherry Coke Zero, Kroger's Diet Black Cherry soda, Diet Dr Pepper, and some Barq's Diet Red Cream Soda! (I like having choices, LOL!) None of those bother me as long as I don't drink then fully carbonated (I pour over ice), but even doing that, I have trouble with Diet Sprite. Too much carbonation, which makes no sense to me, but I have tried it a couple of times and it makes me burp a LOT.

It's not the best choice... Nothing but chemicals... But it is also far from the end of the world. I find -- and some others have expressed this, too -- that drinking the diet soda actually KEEPS me from eating. For some people, it TRIGGERS eating, and so they should definitely avoid it, but for the rest of us I rally don't honk it is any worse than coffee (which also has acid and caffeine).
