I was at my one month post op appointment today and they cleared me for solid foods. I was wondering how long it took for you vets to be able to eat salad? Thanks a bunch!

I was cleared for all foods early out, but I didn't have any actual salad with lettuce until I was 9 months out.  The problem is that salad veggies take up a lot of room in your tiny pouch and provide almost no protein.  You really need all the space for protein for a while.  Even when I did have some salad, it was just 2 or 3 bites AFTER I had my protein.

p.s. just because you are cleared for solids doesn't mean ALL foods.  Some veggies, especially raw are very hard to digest (e.g., broccoli and cauliflower), as are some fruits (especially pineapple)

I eat a salad every other day with chicken or turkey because frankly I need to poo, lol. Salad helps me go so I eat it now. I was also cleared early...about 4 weeks but I didnt actually eat salad until about 10 weeks out. I actually find that I can eat a lot more lettuce than other foods. I guess maybe because lettuce is almost all water. But Lora is correct when she says to make sure you have protein first.

I wasn't supposed to eat salad until I was on a regular diet, which was six weeks for me.  I think it was about three months before I actually ate one, though.  I was too busy eating protein at six weeks out.

I was almost 1 year out, so just recently. And not very often, I just don't have space in my pouch.

I think I was around 6 weeks out. I add chicken, ham, eggs, and cheese to my salad to add protein.

About 3 months out. It's one of the few things that go down without issues.

Hang in there.

I'd say about two months I introduced a little because its just way hard to order protein only things at some restaurants.  So I'll get a small dinner salad and add chicken, shrimp or salmon.  Then I'll eat mostly the protein, and just have a little of the lettuce.  I chew it especially well and have not had an issue.

I was 5 weeks out...I left the Dr's office that day and had some chili from wendys and a side salad....I didn't finish either but the joy of chewing was wonderful..I was really tired of protein shakes and mushed up food and I chewed really well. I agree with everyone else but it made me feel normal.

At my 6 wk follow up my dr said wanna eat some salad and I did, it was fine but not enough protein and too many calories from the dressing.  I don't eat much salad anymore.
