post-op birthday party
Question - I know a lady I work with who is about a year post-op. She often makes sugar free desserts, cake, and homemade ice cream. I am concerned that if I had those things, I'd go overboard or start sliding into bad habits. Do any of you make things like this? Do you have advice one way or the other? Just curious!
Thanks!

Nope. I am 7 months out and I don't keep anything like that in the house. Now this is just me. I had too much of a love affair with cake, donuts, cookie all that stuff. Even if it were all low-cal or fat free I know I wouldn't stop. Doesn't mean that down the road I won't but right now it would be like laying out a line of cocaine in front of a cocaine addict! I no longer feel that horrible carb overload and I don't want it back. Jane
I don't know if it's because I am weird or if it's just because I haven't done it in so long, but I could go to a birthday party every day and never eat cake or ice cream - I really don't have any interest ...
I think my food choices have become habit and so I might nibble on a potato chip occasionally or have a couple (like 2!) crackers but I have no interest in eating and eating them and I honestly would rather have a piece of cheese!
I have all sorts of things in my house - cookies, crackers, muffins etc (I have a 9 year old son who likes them occasionally) and never touch them - I do however have a piece of chocolate most days ... but I can eat it in moderation and don't over indulge so it's not a problem having it in my fridge.

I limit all sorts of trigger foods like that because if I'm not eating them, my husband and 21 month old daughter will. LOL I do bake, but definitely not as much as I used to. I have made some sugar-free things, but they're not things I would want to keep around, honestly. However, I'm more than willing to give recipes a try. If it's a success, then I'll keep it on hand for when I do need to make something for an occasion.
For Christmas this year, instead of my usual huge cookie spread (I'm talking at least 6 different cookies), I'm just making a regular Chocolate Cream Pie for everyone else, and I'll be bringing a WLS-friendly version of Tiramisu for me. I'll also be bringing my own food because my parents are making a turkey and roast beef--both of which, don't sit well for me.
