surgery cancelled

Turns out my illness is the flu. I have been running a fever of over 100 for 3 days. PCP says I have to cancel surgery. I dont honestly know that I will reschedule. To make it 8 days on the protein diet and then to have it cancelled...I just dont know that I can do this again. And I wont have anyone to help with my kids....this is just ****

What does your surgeon say? I'm so sorry this has happened Hun, I fully understand the issues with having an asd child(or two) what day were you scheduled for?

Oh no.... Call your surgeon...he might be able to just extend it a few days explain your situation.... You still have time..

My date was this friday. I called and the scheduler said she would give the info to my doctor so he can choose a new date for me. She said it will be end of January at the soonest...

:(.... I know you feel deflated... but I just wanted to say.... where there is a will, there is a way... try to reschedule your help for your child and get the new surgery date.... ask your surgeon if you do a high protein low carb diet a week before surgery if that would be sufficient... rather then redoing the protein shake diet after....

Oh, Amanda, I'm so sorry!

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear this news since you have such special cir****tances. Don't give up hope yet. Maybe the surgeon will be able to shuffle you around better if you tell him what challenges you're facing, and how important this is time wise. I'd really try to talk to the surgeon directly rather than than the scheduler if they can't get a better date.

i feel your pain, so frustrating!! Mine was scheduled for the 28th of this month and not wont be until the end of feb

I was scheduled for Sept 14th, then was denied 7 days earlier. Had to jump through a bazillion hoops and an appeal. Now my date is 2/6/13.

Everyone told me that the delay would strengthen my resolve.

Would you really give up after an 8 day diet - facing a lifetime of eating changes?

I think you are just pissed of and rightly so - it sucks a lot, but you have come this far. Don't give up!! 

Did you have a positive flu test? Did you call your surgeon? It may not be as bad as it looks.

Yeah, I had a positive flu test. I called my surgeons office when I first started feeling sick. They said as long as there is no pneumonia or fever, they wouldnt cancel. But when two whole days passed of my fever being over 100, I saw my PCP. She said my longs were clear, but tested me for the flu. It was positive, and she said she would feel safest if I postponed. She is one of those amazing family doctors that I trust very much. I am starting the anti viral meds for influenza tonight.

So I guess I will just wait until tomorrow to find out where I fall on the schedule.
