Fried chicken, foamies, lesson learned!
My husband brought some fried chicken home from his shopping trip tonight. It looked SO yummy. Like I said before, the salty crunchy is my weakness. I thought I'd have just the moist meat from inside, but couldn't resist a bit or two...or three...who's counting...of the crunchy goodness. I ate until I felt the little bubbling sensation that often lets me know that I've had enough. Shortly after eating, I started to feel more of the bubbling sensation and some discomfort. Then, it started...what felt like dry heaving, and foam. Honestly, if I could have thrown up it would have been better. It's been awhile and I still don't feel good, but the foaming has stopped. I think?
The meat was not as tender as it could have been, at one point I don't think I chewed well enough, and it was a little spicy. Given all of that, I have no idea what caused this, but I will probably never eat fried chicken again. I try to never say never.
I think I got a little ****y because, other than the mint that I had some nausea with, I've been able to tolerate everything that I've eaten.
I haven't experienced any problem with meats yet but my surgeon suggested putting a little bit of meat tenderizer in a small amount of water and drinking it. I've also heard papaya enzyme works wonders! Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Sorry to hear that it was so rough for you.
What works for my lovely wife (10mo post-op RnY) and I when we eat fried chicken is: No skin, Lots of moisture (butter or tiny sip of H2O), Very small pieces (pinkie finger size), Chew the heck out of it to a liquid consistency and lastly we don't eat the meal in one sitting.
"Listen to your pouch...be a 'Pouch Wisperer" :-)
Good luck and learn from your 'mistakes', everyone is different.
I think I was so thrilled with having the piece of chicken in front of me, I just forgot all the new rules. I usually chew foods until they are almost nothing in my mouth. This was so good...
All part of learning new eating habits.
I will definitely have to listen to my pouch. Up until now, it's been such a calm, subtle message.
When I was in the hospital after surgery, I was not allowed to have any liquid until they took me to a room. Had me swallow some nasty stuff, put me in front of a machine and watched the liquid flow from my mouth to my pouch out to my intestines. After they confirmed that everything was flowing as it should and there were no leaks I could then have a small amount of water and after one more day, they let me go home. If you did not have a similar test, I think they were careless. Now maybe they did the test while you were asleep I understand they do sometimes, but if not they were very irresponsible in my opinion.

I think you may want to be careful.
Your only three months out and your eating fried chicken. You also said you've been able to tolerate everything you've eaten.
The further out you go the more you can eat and the more you can tolerate. Sugar and fat doesn't bother me anymore. I could eat cake/ cookies/ burgers /fries, you name it. I have to chose not to.
I'm concerned that if you don't change your eating and keep trying 'non-WLS friendly' foods you will be in for trouble.
