Minutiae and Pre-Surgery fixation

Okay, the wait is over, I'm scheduled for Jan 7, 2013 and I'm about to start my two-week pre-op diet....which has put me into the swing of getting everything ready ahead of time.  A little fixated on the details I guess so here's my question:  I have a good friend who'll pick me up when I'm discharged to go home but she has a tiny little low-to-the ground car.  I can get in and out of it okay (we won't discuss just how gracefully that's accomplished!), but I'm wondering if it's too much to try it so soon after surgery or if I should try to find another ride a little higher off the ground.  It's mostly the getting out...but getting in when the ground is frozen can be a little tricky.  Just wondering if this is a thing or not?

And thank you for your patience with this silly question!!

It depends how far you have to travel.  I had to travel 2 hours so I was thankful for good shocks.  I was also in a little car and it didn't seam to matter.   Congratulations on your date!!

I came home from the hospital after OPEN RNY in a Honda Prelude which sits quite low to the ground. I had a small pillow to hold against my belly to support it and had someone hold onto my arm just to steady me and give me something stable to hold onto while getting in and out. With lap surgery, you shouldn't have any trouble, but I would still suggest a pillow.

Thank you both so much, that makes me feel better - I don't know why I couldn't come up with a pillow, Lora, that makes sense!

Wow, two hours, I am happy to say I don't have to drive quite that far Minnie!

Yep bring a pillow.  I forgot mine when I went to the hospital, but they just gave me one of theirs to bring home so it wasn't a problem.  They amped me all up on my pain meds right before I left too and waited until the very last minute to take out the IV.  I could have showered there, but I opted to just get the hell out of there and go home to shower.

Good luck!

Would it be too much to ask your friend to bring your car to the hospital to pick you up with? She could leave her lower to the ground car at your house and then when you get home her car is there for her. That is what my daughter did for me along with bringing the pillow!

Hi Susan,    I'm scheduled  for the same day!!    I've been fixated on getting everything ready too.   I've been shopping and getting my hospital bag ready and trying to get my apartment in some order.   My latest fixation is that I'm worried I won't be comfortable in bed and will have a hard time getting out of bed.   I spoke to a medical equipment place today and asked if they rent electric recliners.   I thought I would be able to sleep in it.   Well they don't so I'm thinking of buying one.  Now that is crazy.   lol

One thing about the car is if it has leather seats you'll slide in and out easier.   I would move the seat back as far as it goes so you won't be scrunched in.   Just think next January we will be out dancing.   Best of luck to you.

I took my regular bedroom pillow to the hospital with me so I would be comfortable laying/sleeping. I used that to hold against my stomach while I was on the ride home. Boy, was I glad that I did!
