After surgery is vomiting because you are sick different than before surgery? Do you vomit the same or would you have more dry heaves since we don't have much of a stomach?

I have had two "bugs" that involved nausea and/or vomiting in the 5 years since my surgery (but had NO vomiting during my first year post-op).  My experience both times was that, if there was anything in my pouch, it came up very quickly and easily (with VERY little warning), but if my pouch was empty, there was NO dry heaving... just nausea.  The second time, though, I had a very weird experience/sensation... the nausea seemed to be coming from my remnant stomach AND my pouch.  It was very odd.

I have heard other people who DID have lots of vomiting when they were in the first couple of months post-op, however, say that they HAVE had some dry heaving. when sick.  I have no idea whether that is purely anecdotal or not.

edited to add that vomiting will never be quite like it was pre-op because our pouch does not have all the stomach acids, etc. that our natural stomach has... so you will have no (or little) acid coming up.

I had a three day stint with a stomach "bug last week.  I couldn't vomit...I wish I could have...but ...no.  I had a lot of nausea and a little dry heaving.  The worst part was trying to stay hydrated.  I had NO DESIRE to put anything in my mouth.  I don't want to go through that again anytime soon!
