What Sin Kim said.  The telogen effluvium has nothing to do with vitamins or protein and the hair loss cannot be stopped just by getting extra vitamins and protein.   Thanks to a G-tube for the first few weeks, I got all my protein in  (or very close to 60g) from the very beginning and got in my vitamins religiously and still lost half of my hair.

Biotin will not do anything to prevent hair loss.  There is also no hard evidence that it even helps regrow hair.  I started taking it 2 months before surgery and my hair still grew back very slowly (it has always grown slowly).  It won't hurt you to take a reasonable amount of it,but too MUCH biotin can cause the growth of permanent excess facial hair, so don't take an excessive amount of it.

Oh yeah I agree about the biotin, the fuzz on my face was nice and thick but the hair on my head was still falling out.  I cut my hair short prior to surgery and wore lots of cute wigs when I was sick of it short.  I had three surgeries in four years so lots of falling out for awhile.

I lost a TON of hair..from 4-9 months out..I clogged every freaking shower I used..that being said..no one noticed except my husband who was always snaking the drains..:)

As others have mentioned..it has nothing to do with vitamins but for what its worth I have taken all of mine.

Mine started around 4 to 5 months post op to fall out... When I'd brush my hair after a shower I would really notice it! Then around 9 months post op it started coming back. But really, even tho it freaked me out, it was never that bad that anyone else noticed or anything. I was so happy at 4 months thinking, phew, I didn't have any hair loss, but then like over night it started! And yes, I was getting all my protein and vitamins. Thank goodness it wasn't noticeable to anyone but myself.

I'm almost 4 months post op and have been losing lots of hair for at least 8-10 weeks. :(  I've been doing everything I'm supposed to, but it didn't matter.

Has nothing to do with vitamins, I lose hair every time I have surgery and after I gave birth.  It sucks but there is nothing you can do, it will grow back.

Extremely small temporary price to pay for getting a second chance at life.  Buy some really cute wigs to get you through. Jane

I lost tons of hair starting about 2.5 months post op until I got pregnant at 5.5 months post op. Hair loss slowed/stopped during pregnancy and now it's coming out by the handfuls again.

Hair loss will likely happen. I've taken biotin every day since the hair loss started and it hasn't made a bit of difference. But the hair loss will stop eventually and you're not likely to end up bald before it does.

I am two years post op today and I have not lost any hair. I also did not take any biotin. I hope you don't lose any hair either.

I am losing so much hair that I dread washing it!! The drain has a large handful of hair after each washing.  I have very long hair, and it used to be thick.  Not any more.
