stuck in the stupid hospital another day

Dr. Pohl just came in to tell me the bad news, i am not going home today
He said i need to be able to drink 4 cups of water and 3 shakes in one day before he releases me. Yesterday i got down 3 cups and no shakes. Drank my 3rd cup too fast and nauseated myself...so yeah. Anyone have some good tips on timing the sipping?
Plus my day nurse does not let me drink unless i am in a chair with me feet on the floor, and i am still having pain at the port sites. No more gas pains though.
Sorry for the vent, just thought i would be breaking out of here today, so now i am just feeling defeated. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I guess I would feel the opposite. I'd rather stay if everything is not quite right.  I just feel safer that way because you know they are keeping a good eye on you! The good thing about being there is that you don't have any chores to do or anyone else to take care of. I have two kids so they hospital looks more  like a hotel to me-lol! There's always tons of work to do at home. Just take this time to rest and focus on you! :)

Good luck!

I don't know how large the shakes are, I am going to assume they are 1 cup also. Don't try to drink it all at once. Sip an ounce or 2 then wait 5-10 minutes and sip again. You should be able to get in 8 ounces (1 cup) in an hour at most. Getting in that amount every day (at least!!) is very important, you don't want to be readmitted for dehydration.

Maybe you can make a deal with the nurse to let you sit up in bed to drink if you can get in a cup in one hour or less.

Thanks for the tips martha. I have been sipping water every 5 mins. My goal at the moment is to be able to get 3 cups of water in by 12 so that i can get my first shake then. If i can't, it guarantees me yet another day in here. I knew it would be tough, but i guess i didn't realize how tough it would be just to stay hydrated. Man!

You can do it Jenn. Every day gets a little easier because you get in a routine.

At least they are giving you something.  The hospital I am going to only gives you broth, jello, juice and water.
