Really Feeling Like I Should Not of Had Surgery!!!

Ahhhh! I am two weeks post op today and I am having a day~! Today I keep asking myself why in the hell did I do this to myself? I am never going to be "normal" again. I just want to cook a normal meal for my family (healthy...yes) but a meal I can sit down and eat with them. I feel like such a freak of nature having to puree my food. I just keep thinking was being fat really that bad? DId I really need to go this route?

I think these are all pretty normal feelings but... I just need some encouragement!!

I am 6 months out and I have no regrets.  I wish I had it done years ago!

I felt the same way... you will feel much better soon.  Hang in there!

These stages are usually only 2 weeks at a time - I'll bet you've been on hundreds of diets where you've eaten different meals to your family?

I'm not sure what you are pureeing (please tell me it's not meat devil) cos I never pureed ANYTHING!!!!

Pretty soon, you'll be cooking and eating the same as they are ...   for the moment, you really don't have a choice ...

This will pass ... in a couple of weeks you'll be posting about getting into size XX (insert no here) and look how cute you look!!!

That's a good way of looking at it! I'm experiencing similar emotions as OP.  But, thanks for putting it all in perspective.

I'm pre-op but I plan on telling myself that it's temporary. I have some friends who had RNY and to me-they just eat like a naturally thin person would eat! So just know that it's temporary!

Hugs,

Pam

P.S. I am sure I'll be feeling exactly the same way in 6 weeks!

I'm six weeks out and felt the same way, especially through the puree stage.  I admit I didn't do much puree, I stayed on liquids and added applesauce and instant mashed potatoes.  Soft food is a little easier, at least you can eat some of the same stuff as the family.  We had chicken, mashed potatoes and peas for dinner and I could eat a little of everything.  I'm down 32 pounds and have about 70 to go.  I can tell the difference and while sometimes I hate the restriction, if it didn't have it, I'd never be able to do this.  I had to have forced compliance and I bet you do too.

Hang in there, it gets better every day.  A year from now, we'll both be much thinner and we'll be the ones telling the newbies that it's all worth it.

You will be okay soon you will be able to eat with them just little portions at a time and it will have been well worth it to look and feel great remember being healthy is better then not being healthy keep up the work you will see :)

This surgery comes with tons of info on food stages but no real information on stages of emotions.  Based on prior posts on this forum, it seems like many people experience grief/loss within the first 2 weeks following surgery.  I certainly experienced it.  I am now a little over 2 months out and just getting used to my "new normal."  What keeps me going is a saying I heard, "No food tastes better than skinny feels!"

Isn't having liquids or puree food for a couple of weeks worth it if you can add  back 20 years to your life in a healthy way?

What you are feeling is completely normal. Surgery is a huge decision, and sometimes it can be like buying a new car. You can have buyers remorse. It's tough, and right now, you are in the toughest part of the journey.

The 2 week pre-op diet is tough physically, but right now, you are experiencing the hardest emotional part of the journey. You are at the part where you are eating and living like a thin person, but the world does not yet see you that way. It's really hard, and when I was 2 weeks out, I did a lot of crying and going through depression. But as someone wise once said, "this too shall pass." I repeated that a lot to myself throughout this journey.

So, to answer your question you'll have to ask yourself a few questions. First, ask yourself, did I try everything I could before I decided to have weight loss surgery? (If you are anything like most of us, the answer is absolutely yes.) And second, ask yourself what is so normal about eating pizza and ice cream in front of the tv? Were those moments of unhealthy behaviors worth the guilt and negative feelings you felt afterwards? (I am basing all of my assumptions on how I felt before surgery, so if any of this doesn't apply to you, just ignore it LOL).

You are in the tough part of the battle. One day, you will be able to eat and live in a way that is "normal." It may be different than how you used to live, but you will enjoy it much, much more. So push through this, it will get better. And when you are able to eat and live normally again, you will do so looking and feeling amazing about yourself and your body.  So just remember, you are doing great!
