How long did you need someone to help you at home post-surgery?

i would suggest making some meals up ahead of time and freezing them for your family while you are on liquids...make spaghetti sauce and freeze, then all they have to do take out thaw make noodles if needed...same with taco meat, it freezes very well, so does meat loaf...i am always making those things alot at one time using it for one meal then freezing the rest for those busy days that you just dont have time to cook....

and you  may not feel like coooking after surgery but those are quick and easy meals for the family to fix for them selves..but yet home cooked at the same time....

good luck, have a blessed day

I had a couple of complications after surgery and my one night turned in to 4 nights. I was very unhappy with that. Once I got home I was okay with minimal help because I was I stayed in the hospital for a few extra days. I have a day bed in the spare room and that is where I had to sleep the first three nights so I was able to pull myself up and out of bed. I would say two days if you head home right away. Just prepare so quick easy meals (it should be pretty simple you will be on protein and liquids)

Good Luck!!

I needed someone there for me for a week.  At two weeks, I was pretty independent.

the first night home my neighbor slept on the sofa, she was worried about me being alone but really  I was fine....at 2am I sent her and her dog home as the dog was barking every time she saw one of the cats and keeping me awake,.   After that it was just me and I did great.  I do not have small children.

My daughter stayed with her father for a week after my surgery. My mom stayed with me for two nights, but I was taking care of her more than she was taking care of me. She was just reminding me to sip my water. I was fine doing everything myself the day after surgery.

I had my surgery on Monday and came home on Wednesday. I did not need any help, and was great. I felt like I didn't have surgery at all. When I got home, I left and went to visit my mom and sister. Grocery shopping was a little tough after a week though, because I pushed it to hard and needed to take a break. Once I sat down for 10 minutes, I was fine to finish. I would say no more than a half hour walking around at a time.

My husband took 1week off, however because of complications he stayed a second week at home,  he is going back Monday.   I guess it depends on you and your requirements.

Take it one day at a time!   LP

I have never needed help for more than just the day I got home after ANY of my lap surgeries.  You will just be moving more slowly than usual and taking pain medication.  Open surgeries are another matter, though.  I had a terrier puppy when I had my open RNY and needed help with the dog for a week and needed help with the adult dog for a few days after my tummy tuck and hernia repair surgeries since I couldn't bend down at all with 6-in*****isions.
