Calcium level in your labs
I am sure that you are correct about the calcium citrate v. calcium carbonate but why do the doc's still insist that calcium carbonate is fine? I just looked in my Barix "bible" which contains all the info on the procedure, post-surg food, vitamins, etc. and they say that either type is fine. They also mention that with B12, either pills or sub-lingual are okay. Also, they basically say to take 2 multivitamins and to wait till you get your labs to see if you are becoming deficient in any other vitamins or minerals.
Not all docs say calcium carbonate is fine and not all docs say pills or sublingual B12 is fine. If yours says that, I don't know why. You could ask them. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery makes these recommendations based on research. I don't know what your doc makes their recommendations based on because I've never talked to them.

We absorb almost none of the calcium carbonate. There is no point in alternating them. I'd give them away - or if you haven't opened them yet, return them.

Thanks so much! I started reading but get interrupted by SlL while he is working on my laptop remotely so I will have to read later. I want to lay down too because of this sore throat, upset tummy for two days, and I think a cold is starting. I will be prepared when I see my doctor Wednesday and question him about vitamins
Kelly - The reason I asked is that Barix is a huge organization which deals exclusively in bariatric surgery and post-surgery reconstruction and has facilities in several locations, served by many, many surgeons. The only thing they adjust to you personally prior to surgery is protein grams per day, fat grams per day and max fat grams per meal. Sugar is a standard of less than 2g of added sugar per serving.
Is there a website for the Bariatric recommendations?
Thank you. I hate to be such a pest.

You are limited to TWO grams of added sugar per serving? How are you supposed to know how much of the sugar in something is added (e.g., how much of the sugar in a Greek yogurt with fruit is from the lactose in the milk or the natural fruit sugar, and how much is added sugar)?
That's gonna be a tough guideline to stick to...
Just because it is a large organization doesn't necessarily mean that anyone put in the necessary research into things when they put their "bible" together OR that anyone has updated the information based on current research.
