OT - I have an appt with my PCP tomorrow

I have an appointment with my PCP tomorrow because I've had some sort of respiratory/sinus thing going on for almost a month now.  I though it was getting better for a few days, but then it came back.  My throat hurts, I have a cough, I have a sinus headache, I just feel crappy.  Cold pills help briefly but not enough.

I feel incredibly anxious about the appointment, though.  Since my really bad experience in the ER a few months ago, I've been afraid of seeking medical treatment.  I've been seeing my therapist, but she doesn't feel "medical" to me.  I can't even articulate what I'm afraid of.  And I've always liked my PCP.  But I"m anxious anyway.

I'm glad you are pushing past the anxiety to get this checked out....you do not want to mess around with upper resp issues.

I don't have any advice but I am thinking good thoughts for you that your appointment doesn't cause you a lot of stress and that you feel better soon.

Is your PCP aware of what happened at the ER? If not, make sure you tell them so they know you now have anxiety issues regarding medical treatments. It might help them and you at future appointments.

I feel for you and am sending you good thoughts. I had a bad experience with a male doctor and have since been scared of any doctors except for my female doctor whom I trust and adore very much.

Good luck!

No, she's not aware.  I haven't seen her since the ER visit and it wasn't something the ER would notify her about and it really never occurred to me to try to notify her in some way.  But yes, it might help for her to know.

Over the years I've noticed that often things we are anxious about are always worse in our head than in reality.... It is completely normal given your recent ER experience.

Be open and honest with your PCP about your anxiety and your recent experience... Then give yourself and her permission to address your current health issue. If she has always met your healthcare needs and listened, there is no reason for things to be different this time.

My wish for you is that shewill validate your feelings and get to the root of your current health problems.

feel better soon knowing we are all there for you, sending angels your way.

I hope your appointment goes ok Kelly......I felt a cold coming on last few days and it's full blown today with cough.   I hope you are feeling better soon and your PCP fixes you up with the right meds.wink
