5 Days after surgery will this work?

So my daughter has a meet 2 1/2 hrs from home. It will last 4 hours and the commute time home.
My surgeon said get a oz. of fluids every 15 minutes. this is my game plane.
Leave the house with a protein shake try to drink as much as I can for the ride.
At the meet following his guidelines I will have a regular water bottle with me to sip on. I plan on sitting in the back so I can get up and walk when she isn't competing.
After the competition stopping and getting a tall glass of ice from a fast food place and pouring a ready made shake into it and trying to drink that on the ride home.
Do you think this is to much to do 5 days out? I figure I might even sleep going and coming home just from being tired getting ready and coming home just from being out for that long.
Send me good luck wishes.....my other daughter just started throwing up after complaining of a tummy ache all day I can not get the stomach bug!!!!!!

You'll be fine!  Besides, you don't have a stomach anymore...you have a pouch.  I haven't gotten a stomach bug since my surgery.  :)  You'll be fine and your plan is sound.  Just enjoy!

It sounds like you have a good plan, but remember every person is different after surgery. You could be one of the people who feel no pain and sail through recovery, but I wouldnt count on it. I would say if you can skip the meet. 2 1/2 hrs is a long time to be on the road 5 days after surgery. Sit back and really think about it.

That will be a long day for you.  You will most probably be tired.  Sounds like a good plan though.  I would take a few Tylenol just in case you start hurting.  Definitely try to rest on the drive if you can, it will help.  Best of luck to you and your daughter.

I'm not sure. Maybe it would be ok. If I were you I probably wouldn't go.

I would also plan on a way to have a hot beverage/ broth. Bring an herbal tea bag or two with you. Rest, rest, rest and I hope your daughter does well!

I live about 2-2.5 hrs away from where I am having my surgery and I was told that we would need to make a few stops on the way home due to possible discomfort. I would need to be able to get out of the car and walk around a bit.

I am mentioning this because if you do go, you may want to plan for longer travel time.

Good luck!

I'm five days out and yesterday I managed tee ball camp, shopping for new equipment and grocery shopping.  I was gone for about  6-7 hours. I was very tired when I got home but nothing extreme. I had my water with me all day, pain meds and a back up plan.

today we went to te park for a few hours

I think you will be fine taking the trip.  I went back to work full time after just 1 week and I did fine.  I was tired but I wasn't in pain and I had my water and protein shake just like you have planned.  Good luck with the trip.  And good luck to your daughter!

I can't miss this meet. She is at States and has a pretty good shot at making it to Regionals. She is so mad at the surgeon for pushing it up I was originally scheduled for the Mon after her meet. Great point I am going to have my husband stop along the way so I can get out and walk a bit. I have a high threshold for pain sometimes to high and things are bad before I go to the ER or Dr. Soi am really worried about pushing myself to hard. Good thing a mom from another gym is a nurse and she will be keeping a eye on me. Thanks ladies I am just so nervous about missing this for my baby girl.
